Correct. FFL dealer to FFL dealer only. More accurately, the Maryland dealer would arrange for transfer of the weapon. Subsequently, conducting the sale to you in Maryland. Unless you inspected the weapon in Va. personally, and have some overriding reason to have that specific handgun, it would appear easier to buy a S&W 642 from a FFL dealer in Maryland. Is there some specific reason you want that Virginia gun? Exceptionally low price, unusual provenance, or collector appeal?

I thought it would cost less in Virginia. However, if I have to pay transfer fees and whatnot, it might be easier just to get it in Maryland. Also, I thought it would be easer to get in Virginia as there are more stores that sell guns in Virginia than in Maryland.
