Technically, 1994’s “Dumb and Dumber” had a follow-up movie in the form of 2003’s prequel “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd,” but according to the original’s creators and directors, that one didn’t count.
Come 2014, however, the one that does count should hit the big screen.
Peter and Bobby Farrelly—the siblings behind the original—announced via Twitter on Tuesday that they are almost finished with the script for “Dumb and Dumber To,” the official sequel.
Co-star Jeff Daniels has been on board for the sequel all along, but co-star Jim Carrey ducked out of the project earlier this year because he feared the project lacked studio commitment.
The Farrellys also hinted on Tuesday that with the nearly-completed script, Carrey is back in the fold and will revive his role as Lloyd Christmas.
In a Digital Spy interview in August, Bobby Farrelly indicated the sequel’s story line will involve a child that one of the pair has fathered. In a darkly-comedic twist—for which the Farrellys are well known—Harry or Lloyd are in need of a kidney and want to ask the child for one of his.
“Dumb and Dumberer To” is expected to begin filming in the spring and is being targeted for a 2014 release.

If Jeff Daniels signs up again, he can just play the character he plays on “The Newsroom.”
I don't remember a lot of the film because I couldn't see it for the tears of asphyxiating laughter that I was desperately trying to wipe from my eyes.
There are very few movies that have made me laugh like this one did. Thank you, Farrelly brothers. You guys are nuts.
A sequel without Carrey in it? It would be like July 4th without fireworks.
