Bringing a Bible makes sense...the ones available at the time were only hand-scribed by monks in monasteries, with only priests and abbotts/abbosesses had them.

Oh... You read Latin or Greek? Oh... You got a plan to get into the monestaries to read the bible... Or do you plan on taking gold as an item to buy a Latin/Greek text for yourself? One thing for certain... You aren't gonna pop down to the life way store and buy a KJV/NIV/ESV.

Not for the common people. The Gutenberg printing press made it’s debut in 1436.
