But why use a cheap, generic drug when you can use and expensive patented drug instead?

Careful there . . .aspirin is a blood thinner which may help break up a clot causing the stroke. However, not all strokes are caused by clots. If the stroke is caused by an aneurism (weakening of blood vessel/bubble ready to burst) or other malady - the damage could be far worse.

Re: Aspirin. I think the mechanism of action is different. NA-1 acts at the post-synaptic level whereas aspirin affects platelet aggregation. The choice of drug depends upon your individual circumstances. The study involved endovascular aneurysm repair eval post op.
