The Beatles were the band of the decade for the 1960s

Led Zeppelin was the band of the decade for the 1970s

I’ve never been able to figure out who the band of the decade for the 1980s 1990s or 2000s was though.

I’d say Metallica fits the overall role LZ had, even though their style of music is much different. They have been very long lasting and a huge seller. I believe they are more a descendant of Black Sabbath.

I would like to throw Guns N’ Roses out there as well, as more of a straight-up rock n roll band in the mold of LZ. Appetite For Destruction was epic, and they were the biggest band in the world for a few years. They didn’t have the longevity, though.
