Tornado Warning
TV Warning | 9/18/2012 | me

Posted on 09/18/2012 6:52:16 PM PDT by NoGrayZone

Very odd. I am here in Suffolk County Long Island and we just had an interruption warning us of a tornado warning.

Last time that happened was in the late 90's.

Sorry about your 90+ tomorrow. We're supposed to have wonderful weather once this passes.

I will be going to my local beach (now that the season has ended) to collect beach glass and reflect.

Okay, I'm a total fag girl, but when I go beach glassing, I look out and see how perfect He made the world.

At times it brings me to tears. The perfection is sometimes unbelievable.

Sept 8, 2012...

Two Tornadoes Strike in NYC
By KAREN MATTHEWS | Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — Two tornadoes struck New York City on Saturday [Sept 8, 2012], one swept out of the sea and hit a beachfront neighborhood and the second, stronger twister hit moments later, hurling debris in the air, knocking out power and startling residents who once thought of twisters as a Midwestern phenomenon.

Videos taken by bystanders showed a funnel cloud sucking up water, then sand, and then small pieces of buildings, as the first moved through the Breezy Point section of the Rockaway peninsula in Queens.

The second hit west, in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn also near the water, about seven minutes later. The National Weather Service said winds were up to 110 miles per hour, and several homes and trees were damaged.

No serious injuries were reported.

Residents had advance notice. The weather service had issued a tornado warning for Queens and Brooklyn at around 10:40 a.m. The storm took people by surprise anyway when it struck about 20 minutes later. ...”

There were two tornadoes last week in NYC so you aren’t immune. Keep an eye on the local radar and good luck to you.

Yup. Here are a couple of youtube links from last weeks NYC tornados.

I know they can happen anywhere, but they are very rare here in NY.

I must tell all of you..our town, for the past year, and STILL continuing, has been doing “construction...shovel ready jobs” to elevate New York Ave (which used to be a river) a freakin inch.

News 12 weather is now saying cars are getting STUCK in that area, in which was “raised” to prevent such flooding.

Really???

I assumed it was a warning because of the headline.

ILLINOIS HOLLA!

We had the largest tornado since I lived here a few years back. It turned over a empty boxcar and a few semi-trailers. The hail poked holes in my fiberglass patio cover and pounded my corn in to the ground. The corn was already 6” tall.

Second mention of that on this thread.

What is ‘beach glass’?

Beach glass is glass (usually fragments of bottles)that has been smoothed and sanded by the action of waves and sand.

Beach glass is beautiful. It's glass that has been in the oceans for many years and has been “rough and tumbled”. It loses it's shiny glass look, no sharp edges, etc.

I actually found 2 pieces of black beach glass, which dates back to the 1700-1800’s. It's very rare.

There are also beach glass “marbles”. They look exactly like marbles, but are glass. Those are rare as well.

Look up some pics of beach glass. A lot of people make jewelry from it.

Thanks, you two, for explaining beach glass. I like the photo of the pieces.

I’ve been going to Galveston since I was pre-school age (I’m now 70) and I’ve never seen anything like that. Also Pensacola Beach and Jacksonville Beach. ....Must be a happening only along the Northeast coastlines of the Atlantic.
