SACRAMENTO, Calif. Online retailer Amazon.com has tried to become all things to all consumers, but in California, it is about to take on a role it has fought against for years: tax collector.
The change, which takes effect this weekend, comes after years of bitter back and forth between the worlds largest online mall and the California Legislature over whether Internet retailers should have to impose sales taxes on customers. The two sides reached a deal in 2011 that included a one-year grace period set to end Saturday.

....note: the privated vendors who work through Amazon have not charged tax...yet.

Charge to collect CA tax on PO #123456 8%: $8.00
Revenue due CA: $0.00
In my case, a little less business for Amazon and a little more business for Fry’s.
Amazon stock is up over 1% in trading. I’ll be interested to see where it goes on Monday.

This won’t affect Amazon’s share price today or Monday. This was announced a year ago, and was anticipated long before that, so it’s already been priced into the share price.
