I must comment on the girls being “pretty decent”: These boys are deemed pretty decent in our community and would be in most communities. What some parents are realizing now is the risk of labeling a kid a “good” kid. I’m starting to really wonder myself as I troll their Twitter feeds. The “good” kids in the scholars program are certainly not. Disclaimer! I do not in any way, shape, or form mean that if the girls weren’t good they deserved it! This is just my two cents about children.
Leaving out of the question whatever happened that night, the tweets and other recorded comments pretty much take them out of the running as “good kids.” IMO.
What I find most difficult to understand is the boasting. I understand how alcohol reduced inhibition and peer pressure does, too, especially in young men. You could easily get dragged into doing something you would later be ashamed of.
But being proud of and boasting about it in the following days?
