Legendary Texas racer Carroll Shelby, who died in Dallas on May 10 at age 89, was finally laid to rest in Leesburg on Wednesday.
Shelbys ashes were buried in a cemetery in his native East Texas after a private ceremony.
His body had remained in storage at the Dallas County medical examiners office for two months while his three adult children sought to resolve a bitter dispute with his widow, Cleo Shelby of Los Angeles.
Initially, Cleo Shelby had objected to the familys plans to cremate Shelby, contending that she had the right as his widow to decide how he would be buried.
Shelbys oldest son, Mike, had documents in which he said Shelby directed him to divide his ashes among his children with a fourth portion to be buried in the family plot in Leesburg.

Sorry to here of the loss of Carroll Shelby, one of the true kings of American muscle, horsepower, and ingenuity.
RIP
I would’ve loved to see the funeral procession of friends and fans driving all the amazing cars he created. Miles upon miles of rumbling horsepower sitting on fat tires.
Thank you Mr. Shelby for your contribution to the American automotive experience.
Mr. Shelby, you made a great car.
