That would be the Gun Control Act of 1968 (Public Law 90-618).
Signed by President Johnson on 22 October 1968.
It prohibited convicted felons from purchasing or possessing firearms
“That would be the Gun Control Act of 1968 (Public Law 90-618). Signed by President Johnson on 22 October 1968.”
It was also a dead bill until once certain Charlton Heston and the NRA pushed for it. That’s right, we can thank the NRA and Charlton Heston for pushing through the 1968 GCA.

With these words! “TODAY we make America safe by taking guns out of the hands of criminals!”-LBJ
I knew a man who committed a felony back in 1939. (leaving the scene of an accident that was not his fault).
He got TEN YEARS in prison, released in three years if he would join the military. He did and was issued a M1 rifle, collected many handguns from the Germans, returned to the US and never did anything wrong again.
In 1968 LBJ made it illegal for him to own a gun.
