Madonna Sued for Promoting Homosexuality During Concert in Russia

Madonna is being sued for millions in Russia after she performed in Moscow and advocated homosexuality. There are strict laws in Russia related to the promotion or advocacy of homosexuality with those found in violation of such acts facing stiff punishment.

A new law that was passed in February makes it illegal to promote homosexuality to minors and that is that basis for the lawsuit against the singer. The plaintiffs alleged that there were children as young as 12 at Madonna's concert on Aug. 9 and that her remarks made during the show are in violation of the law.

Alexander Pochuyev, a lawyer representing the nine activists, revealed that the suit was filed Friday against Madonna, the organizer of her concert, and the venue where the show took place and seeks total damages of 333 million rubles, or nearly $10.5 million, as reported by AP.

With Madonna's global appeal there has been swift backlash against authorities in Russia, but the lawyer representing the defendant stated that tolerance should be afforded to all types of societies and that the laws were passed with large public support.

"No one is burning anyone at the stake or carrying out an Inquisition," Pochuyev told local news agency RIA Novosti, adding, "modern civilization requires tolerance and respect for different values."

The offenses, as they are described in the lawsuit, state that a video taken at the concert apparently showed Madonna stepping on an Orthodox cross and asking her screaming fans to lift their hands and wave the pink armbands in support of gays and lesbians that were distributed among the audience, according to reports from RIA Novosti.

Madonna's spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, has not yet provided a statement concerning the incident nor has she revealed the singer's reaction to the lawsuit.

Not the first time in her life Madonna has faced anything stiff. She can handle it.

Put the proceeds from the concert in escrow until the trial is over.

Differing values like lethal behavior?

Why should we respect, and openly accept the two legged plague rats desire to spread their disease?

"Even a broken clock is right twice a day."

Kudos to Russia. I'm impressed. Somehow, they're ahead of their time on this issue. The rest of us are just waking up!

They want a large and healthy population. They’re not interested in Their people being childless.

LOL ! Kind of interesting on how Russia looks down on homosexuality and we are promoting it in this country. We should take Russia's direction to frown on it, not promote it.

Now on Madonna, I never like her from when she showed up in the 1980's.

This stupid tramp goes around moaning and crying about how oppressive the United States is and how horribly the US treats gays. Now she gets to see what real oppression is.

Wow. I actually agree with the Russian government that homosexuality ought not be promoted to minors.

However, I also don’t think that speech promoting homosexuality to minors ought to be CRIMINALIZED.

There should be a difference between what good sense, manners, and social norms call for (non-promotion of homosexuality [or for that matter any sexuality] to minors), and what the law enforces.

Leave people and society to police their own norms. Let Free Speech reign. Let there be a robust debate and concurrence of what ought and oughtn’t be legitimate, and let parents screen what their children are exposed to.

Otherwise, it’s your preferred speech next that is Verboten!

The Lenin's quote on the right says: "All prohibitions regarding sexuality must be removed. We have plenty to learn from suffragists: even the prohibition of homosexual love must be abandoned."

This quote is from a personal letter that Lenin wrote to Trotsky in 1911. Lenin was a nudist himself and converted his family to nudism. Many Bolscheviks were cut from the same cloth. Communists were quite enthusiastic about nudism and sexual freedoms because that quickly reduced the man to an animal. Communists were glad that the rabble "has something to do" instead of questioning their politics. In 1920's public nakedness was welcomed and supported by the state; contemporary reports mention naked men and women in the street, in public transport, in stores. Everyone was supposed to become a pervert by the age of adulthood. Some regions issued laws that eliminated the family, welcomed unrestrained mating of men and women, and mandated purchasing the resulting children from mothers for raising in government-managed facilities. Hey, it's not easy to manufacture the new man of the communist future :-) Good that cloning back then was unheard of.

In other words, Lenin would feel entirely at home here, in the country that is willingly destroying the family. The populace is taught from young age to play with themselves and with their "partners" [it was a useful word until recently] in many unnatural ways while the country is about to collapse. But narcissists do not care about the industry and the debt and the mining of rare earths if they can play all day and all night.

By the way, do you know who put an end to all this gayness? Stalin. He needed workers - and the LGBT lifestyle, like sexual freedom in general, was not helping. By the end of 1930's USSR became a reasonably conservative society, at least with regard to sex.

You underestimate the sex positive agenda. They see orgasm as a birthright to be enjoyed by everyone at all ages. They encourage sexual experimentation at all ages. They seek to end ALL moral judgments over ALL sexual pairings regardless of sex, age, relation, marital status, number, or species of partner(s).

Socialists like Reich, Kinsey, and feminists all espouse this philosophy. Planned Parenthood spun off a sex positive agency called SIECUS and I believe there is an international branch.

There have been efforts to take this "sexual freedom" to the United Nations under the banner of a bill of rights for kids.

They aren't there to help the young. They are there to exploit them. Free love isn't free.

Corrupting a minor is a crime. They seek to see them sexual active to be used and abused.

Do you think it is proper to teach 5th graders about oral and anal sex as is being proposed by the Left even in Texas?

Fair enough... At least you don’t dismiss the First Amendment generally.

So, down to specifics:

“The offenses, as they are described in the lawsuit, state that a video taken at the concert apparently showed Madonna stepping on an Orthodox cross and asking her screaming fans to lift their hands and wave the pink armbands in support of gays and lesbians that were distributed among the audience, according to reports from RIA Novosti.”

Is “lift their hands and wave pink armbands in support of gays and lesbians” sufficient to jail someone? It’s hardly the corruption of minors examples you gave.

As we proceed to discuss, please know that I’m trying to be able to draw a fine line between legitimate speech which Putin quashes generally, and truly harmful sexualization of minors. Putin is showing himself an anti-speech dictator in several venues (see Pussy Riot, Gary Kasparov, dead journalists, etc.)

I don’t mind law that addresses specifically and deeply harmful acts. But raising arm bands is hardly one of those acts.
