The Red Sox family lost one of its most cherished and loved members on Monday.
Johnny Pesky, who has been one of the faces of the franchise since the 1940s, passed away on Monday, according to multiple reports. He was 92 years old. Pesky made his major league debut with the Red Sox in 1942, and he spent the majority of his playing career in Boston. He also spent three years as the manager in Boston, and he has long been a member of the organization following his playing days and time as manager. He also missed three seasons of his playing career in the 1940s while serving in World War II.
Pesky left his mark on the franchise in his seven decades in baseball. His No. 6 is retired at Fenway Park, and the right field foul pole is affectionately known as Pesky's Pole. The Red Sox legend continued to make appearances at Fenway Park into the 2012 season where he attended the park's 100th anniversary celebration.

Will they paint the famed Pesky pole black, or drape black bunting around it?
Does “Billy” have an alibi?
Johnny Pesky was agreat American. His impact on baseball fans in New England is unlikely to be matched any time soon by anyone. There is a book by Dick Flavin called Teammates. It is about the lifetime bond between 1940’s and 1950’s Red Sox teammates Johnny Pesky, Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, and Dominic Dimaggio. You don’t have to be a baseball fan to really, really enjoy this book. It is not really about baseball so much as it is about friendship and loyalty. It is one of the best books I have ever read and it will tell everything you need to know about Johnny Pesky.
From this Red Sox fan:
RIP Johnny Pesky.
I remember when Fenway Park celibrate its 100th, saw the special tribute online back in April.
They did special on PBS based on that for American Master they interview Johnny in that interview
Memories-——————(sigh)
In honor of Pesky, the right field foul pole at Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox, is known as Pesky’s Pole, or the Pesky Pole.
I thought I remembered Johnny Pesky as being a Detroit Tiger. Google and Wikipedia confirmed that Pesky was indeed a Tiger 1952-1954, playing at Briggs Stadium.
RIP.
youre right. Pesky was a Tiger from 1952-1954 and ended his career in 1954 as a Wash Senator.
The Pesky Pole will be set at half-mast.
