Do they train helicopter pilots?
New Details From Choppers' Dip in Lake Tahoe NBC Bay Area
"US Navy officials from the Pentagon told NBC News this was not a training mission, but that the two helicopter crews were allegedly attempting to take photos of each other's helicopters hovering just above the waters of Lake Tahoe with the mountains as a majestic backdrop when their photo op went horribly wrong."

I hear two opinions on this - neither of which from someone who has done it (as far as I know).
One says you touch down normally just keep your speed up and the water's hard as concrete.
The other says you have to stand on the brakes so the tires skip on the surface - that if you let them start rolling, you're going to make a big splash.
Have not to date had the nerve to try it in my RV.
