Massive mural memorializing slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin is going up in East New York

The city’s first known Trayvon Martin mural is going up on a wall of an East New York laundromat - adding to a brewing campaign to make sure history doesn’t snub the slain teen’s image.

Teenage boys will start painting the 100-foot picture July 16 on New Lots Laundromat’s wall underneath the elevated tracks of the IRT No. 3 train.

The East New York mural will join a growing list of similar street art popping up in black neighborhoods across the country.

“We want him to become a martyr, and it’s sad that we even have to say that,” said Catherine Green, executive director of ARTs East New York Inc., who is overseeing the project.

“We want to see change coming out of this. People see a young man with a hoodie and they think he is a criminal.”

The seven young painters will show off the outline for the giant image in mid-July but are set on drawing Martin dressed in the his famed sweatshirt.

“It goes back to hip-hop and how people dress. When you see that hoodie, it signifies what people think about our young men in our community,” Green said.

Neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman gunned down the hoodie-clad Florida teen in February telling cops he thought the boy appeared suspicious.

Initially, authorities didn’t arrest Zimmerman, citing the state’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” law. A national debate on racial profiling ensued and officials later charged Zimmerman with second degree murder.

Martin snapped a picture of himself in a gray hoodie before his death. The image went viral as buzz surrounding the case intensified and is now on countless t-shirts and posters.

State Sen. Eric Adams (D-Crown Heights) used the picture on a June 7 flyer inviting young Brooklynites to a rally against a floundering Stand Your Ground bill stalled in Albany.

“The story of Trayvon Martin will find its way into the history books,” Adams said. “It symbolizes the frustration and anger of young men of color losing their lives — by their own hands, by the hands of the police, and by vigilante groups.”

The Martin family copyrighted their son’s hoodie photo earlier this month, along with the phrases “Trayvon Martin,” “I am Trayvon Martin,” and “Justice for Trayvon Martin,” said Michael Hall, co-founder of the Justice for Trayvon Martin Foundation, an advocacy group tied to Martin’s legal team.

“We want to stop people from making a profit from [the image],” said Hall, explaining that while he was unaware of the East New York mural, he doesn’t have a problem with the plan.

Still, Hall was skeptical about whether street art will push history book authors to include the Trayvon Martin case.

“History will dictate what it wants to acknowledge. They will dictate what they want to pay attention to,” Hall said.

From my previous post #65: On February 6, 2012, workers witnessed two young black men lingering in the yard of a Twin Lakes resident around the same time her home was burglarized. A new laptop and some gold jewelry were stolen. The next day police discovered the stolen laptop in the backpack of a young black man, which led to his arrest. Zimmerman identified this young man as the same person he had spotted peering into windows on February 2.

Prince Skittles was caught at school and suspended for having women's jewelry and a screwdriver in his backpack in October. He claimed then he was holding the jewelry for someone. Could he have repeated the crime in Feb.? Only one of the two young black men was arrested for the Feb. 6 robbery and he had the stolen laptop in his backpack (interesting how everyone has stuff in their backpacks) but I don't see the jewelry being found or the second suspect being arrested. So, where was our little angel on Feb. 2 and 6? According to the Miami Dade school site, Feb. 2 was an early release day and Feb. 3 was a teacher day so Trayvon had a long weekend. The 6th was a Monday and a school day but he could have skipped since he did that enough to get suspended for skipping.

Where would people get that idea?

“The story of Trayvon Martin will find its way into the history books,” Adams said.

As George Washington and Abe Lincoln are being REMOVED from history books to make room for more "diversity" in the coursework lesson plans.

A slap in the face to Brian Terry’s family, a federal employee murdered by foreigners with illegal US government planted weapons. Actually, a slap in the face to every soul whoever lost their life, fighting to protect lives, or providing security and freedom. This is disgusting.

The Feb. window peeping and robbery happened 2-3 weeks before the shooting but don't know when the one guy was caught. I can see the cops not having enough time in there to find the second guy and if it was Prince Skittles then it would have been too late to question him. And you can bet that after all this the cops quickly stamped that case closed and aren't talking for fear of their jobs and bounty hit lists.

IIRC, the October jewelry and screwdriver in his backpack were never reported to the police.

Two incidences with backpacks seem to point to a certain age group, don't you think? GZ's lawyers need to coordinate criminal activity not just in Brandy's neighborhood but also dates in his mom's neighborhood with where the little thug was at those times. If they can get his partners to rat him out then there's a history, if not of violence, but of an unsavory character which destroys the sweet little angel persona.

You can be sure that justice for Trayvon is getting money from us the taxpayers. They have a huge well-oiled machine that has been in place for 40 or 50 years or more. How many *social justice* organizations are there at last count, I am sure they must be in the thousands.

This is the power of propaganda, media and the mob. They certainly know how to use it.

The power we have is in not watching the msm. They cannot force us to watch it and if many people are offended enough to stop watching ther toxic lies, then they will loose advertisers and their programs will go dark. We can bring down the mighty from their thrones.

Martin obviously did not know that Zimmerman had a gun or he wouldn’t have started beating up Zimmerman. Zimmerman does have physical proof of being beaten by the gashes on the back of his head and the swollen nose but Martin had no such injuries on him. Martin would not have gone up to Zimmerman and started fighting him if he had seen a gun. DUH. Martin was the aggressor.

I wonder if there are other blacks in the condo complex or if there are blacks living on the streets around the condos? Young black burglars wouldn’t be walking long distances to rob houses. They had to live within walking distance. Trayvon’s father was living at his girlfriends house, I wonder if she go the apartment through section 8?

No, I was talking about the supposed burglary tools he had in his back pack in Miami. Not the burglaries in GZ’s neighborhood. Just that this case has gotten so messed up that I’m surprised that rev.jj or rev. as haven’t put forth some sort of premeditated theory as far fetched as the one I put forth. Yup, he was a thug and headed for the big time had he lived. Perceived “disrespect” by GZ got him killed. That and trying to bash GZ’s head into the sidewalk. Unfortunately the “disrespect” thing has gone too far. I can’t believe the attitude of so many people today. If you ask to see an ID card the get offended and “believe” you have just “dissed” them by asking for an ID? Really? What the heck?
Anyway, have a great Sunday.

an unsavory character which destroys the sweet little angel persona.

There is a tweet from one of TM's girl friends at his high school that indicates that he had left there permanently and was not coming back. It appears he may have been expelled rather than just suspended.

Why was he not staying with family, but with Brandi Greene instead. Could it have been her occupation: a juvenile detention officer in Orlando. Was he given the option of staying with her or jv hall for something he did???

Furthermore he had no key to Brandi Greene's house. Didn't she trust him with a key??? Is it possible that he was not allowed to be in her house when she wasn't there??? Is that why he was out wandering around that night??? And the story of Chad being home??? Really??? All the police/emt activity 70 yards away, and he hears and sees none of it???

When Tracy was asked by the police dispatcher when his son was last seen that night, he said 8:30. Well he had been dead for an hour by then. So why did he say 8:30??? It was a pure guess since no one was home that night and TM was probably not allowed to be in there alone.

They all know that he was no angel and when Tracy called the police that morning, he probably expected to hear that he was in their jail cell. What Tracy knows about TM and isn't saying may have to be dragged out of him under oath one syllable at a time.

Notice how quiet rev.jj and al have been since everyone now knows z isn't so white and his head was bashed and that t has a history of bad behavior. Yep, quiet as mice who've scurried back into their holes.

Most of the information out there indicate he was suspended for 10 days and that mama packed him off with dad so he wouldn’t be hanging with his homies at the house while she was at work. Guess mama didn’t trust either. Dad was spending happy times with his girlfriend so that’s why when dad had visitation, that’s where they were staying. Yes, it is a bit unbelievable that Brandy’s son wasn’t curious about all the lights and sirens and neighbors out. Had he sneaked out of the house, too? As for her saying he was last seen at whatever time doesn’t hold water because she and dad were out. But again, it’s ubelievable that when/if they came home that night that they didn’t check on the kids or that her son didn’t call her to say TM never came home. The adults didn’t seem too worried about him not being home until they called the cops about 10 AM. Which begs the question why would they call the cops? Did they assume he’d been in trouble? If so, then that’s a got’cha. What’s strange is the cops didn’t notify them before midnight at the latest. Did TM not have his parents listed on his phone? Still, you’d think the cops would have gone down his phone directory and gotten hold of anyone to help track down the parents. Unless, the cops had been suspicious and were tracking him and his whereabouts and didn’t want to be stopped by the parents. Can you think of a reason the cops wouldn’t have notified the parents?
