Also, cat-hoarders often have other problems which have triggered the cat-hoarding in the first place ... like my neighbor whose (4th) husband is dying of cancer, while her 19-year-old son has a felony record and won’t move out (he does the yardwork, at least), and her daughter’s “man” has taken off, leaving her with two young children and pregnant, “Mom, I need you to babysit!”
If that was me, I’d have 38 catz, too. Or worse ... maybe 38 snakes.

I guess they didn’t ask we veterinarians. We could have told them this unequivocally.

First of all the study is based in Denmark where there is a higher proportion of suicides than in countries south of the Danes. Two, women who manage to keep more than one cat or become a “cat lady”, (some of whom have up to 10 or more) are by nature unstable to begin with so I am not sure the problem is in the cat liter rather the source of the problem is in the liter in their minds to begin with...

Perhaps its not the cat parasites, but the after effects of all the venereal diseases they picked up while riding the carousel in the glory days of their 20s.

it seems to me that a major reason someone might become a cat lady is that they already have mental health issues. I have a relative who falls in this category to some extent.
But I agree that there appears to be good evidence for toxoplasmosis causing problems in humans.
