Well, I have no problem with people posting things that are important to them, if its the appropriate forum, etc., but my problem is when they intentionally make it a huge graphics file so that I am forced to look at it. It seems abusive to me, given that I can’t figure out a way to filter them out

As someone told you, just have it open to titles and excerpts, and open the articles you want to read from there. That's how it's done. If you insist on opening to the whole post, then you're just going to have to deal with it.
The choice is yours.
