Pastrami lovers came out bright and early Friday morning to line up in front of Langers Deli in Westlake as the restaurant celebrates its 65th anniversary by giving away free sandwiches.
By 7 a.m., nearly 40 people had formed a queue outside the eatery on the corner of South Alvarado and West 7th streets.
This is a way for the owner, Norm Langer, to show his appreciation to his customers and to the community at large for everything theyve given him, said spokesman John Schwada.
On Friday and Saturday, customers will receive a free No. 19 sandwich, the delis most popular: hand-cut pastrami, cole slaw, Swiss cheese and Russsian dressing on double-baked rye bread.

Way to go Norm, God Bless Ya!
Now I’m hungry.
Great deli!!! Also use to love having lunch at Vickman’s in the produce market area. They sadly closed their doors in the early 1990’s.
Could someone fax me one of those sandwiches?
Wouldn’t that be great??? ; )

Yes, this thread is useless without a picture of the sandwich.
Ask, and ye shall receive. Or some Biblical variant thereof - they have actually made a computer wallpaper in four different resolutions for the No. 19, and dig this - they offer worldwide overnight FedEx service Tu-We-Th:
I admit I'm a Reuben/pastrami fiend, but this must be one helluva sammich!!!!

Oh my word, that looks fantastic.
Oh wow. Just... wow.
Yes.
Hot pastrami with a slice or two of Swiss on a bulkie with deli mustard...
Heaven on Earth!
I once had a Pastrami as a young child. It was the best pet I ever had.
