Weekly Sci-Fi Thread (06/10/12)
Monday:
9/8 -- Eureka -- SyFy
TOPICS: Miscellaneous; TV/Movies
KEYWORDS: scifi
I can't wait to Eureka to end.. Worst season of it..
Well I'm off to see Prometheus and I hope it is a good movie.
I finally saw Pandorum.. I was impressed with the movie.
I do like the common theme of Scifi some shows and movies in Firefly, BSG, Pandorum, and I'm sure there are others. In order for the human race to survive, Space is the final frontier. Your thoughts??

I recently watched John Carter of Mars.....while I think the actor who portrayed him was a very bad choice (he often looked sickly white and very dirty greasy) in the movie, I think the Deja Thoris actor was smokin, smokin H-O-T....
My daughter said when watching it with me (me, my 2nd time and hers her first) said “Ewwww....those red human Martians have blue blood”.....I didn’t see that the first go round (too busy looking at Smokin’ DT, I guess)....
That got us to thinking when we pondered about whether they’ll marry, etc. My daughter said, “What if there isn’t a ‘there’ there, down there for her?” I replied, “What if it’s even worse? Imagine her packing some junk.” Daughter laughed and said, “yeah....total reversal!” EWWWWWWW!!!!
He kissed her once I think and later proposed without checking out the er, uh plumbing......a BIG gamble IMHO....
Good movie!!!!

Prometheus was aggravating.
It’s clearly connected to the “Alien” franchise, but figuring out how the pieces fit together is a simply a let-down. You’d think Ridley Scott could come up with a better “bible” with thirty years to work on it.

It’s been a long time since I read the Barsoom stories, but IIRC, the red martians were oviparous, like the Tharks. IOW, they laid eggs. John Carter and Dejah do have children in later stories.
To: Malone LaVeigh
Well...just damn.....my daughter is gonna feel vindicated....IIRC, fertilization in a lot of species is on the eggs after they are laid.....ewwwwwww...such a smokin hot hottie and no game in town....

I thought it fit together pretty clean, surprisingly clean since he’s been saying it really isn’t prequel. By the end of this movie Alien is 100% setup, all the pieces are there, the bit alien for the egg room, the egg room, Weyland’s interest in the planet, even the signal they followed to get there.

I was hoping for something as awe-inspiring and mysterious as the visuals.

Well I just saw the movie and I found it to be a good movie. Looks like they are setting up to redo the Alien franchise.

I suppose it I’d ever watched Jersey Shore I’d’ve felt the same way.

Bits and pieces. I thought the production was a step up from the ripoff artistes at The Asylum, but that, nor the story, could make up for all the other defects in casting, acting, extremely forced camp, etc.
I wonder if Sorvino and Atherton lost a truth or dare poker bet to be in such a mediocre farce.
It probably didn't help that my only exposure to the real but fake "Jersey Shore" is the "South Park" parody.
Still, it lacked the je ne sais quoi of say, Troma, or even Ed Wood.
To: papertyger
How many years are there in between? Numbers change, especially when a location is a secret. I think the big thing to keep in mind is it’s not a prequel, just like he said. It’s part of the story of that universe that happens to indeed include aliens, or at least precursor aliens.

I think they’re setting up to do at least 1 of the 2 things we always wanted them to do: aliens on earth (what they said at one point was going to be the second movie) without screwing around with Predators; and aliens on their “home” world. Both of which can be great if executed properly.

Did anyone catch Jersey Shore Shark Attack?I stopped by while surfing just because of the name. Sy-fy Saturday nights are a sometimes guilty pleasure. It looked bad enough to be good, but the 4-year old was still up and the wife frowned on the dude getting eaten while he was watching. A lot of fist pumping going on at Sallie's.

Very good. You’re redeeming yourself after a couple of bad weeks. I always thought Yvette Mimeux was incredibly hot. The “slug” movie I posted a couple of weeks ago was The Tingler- a Vincent Price movie.
