Yes, basically anti-alien suicide vests, very good!

In the program, the aliens had already eliminated our air assets and they didn’t fear any kind of air attack by us.

Their ships were huge and were parked, hovering, about a mile off the ground over these various strategic locations. They had enormous cargo bay doors that were always open and through which their forces (everything was robotic) would ascend and descend to attack us.

So a couple of dozen men, suicide bombers, assembled beneath one of these ships, deployed their little backpack balloons, and floated up into the open cargo bay, then spread out looking for the most vulnerable things they could find inside the alien ship. Then they would blow those vulnerable looking things up in the hopes they could bring the ship down. Everyone knew it was a suicide mission.

Kind of silly, I know. But the Science Channel got the idea across. You have hundreds, worldwide perhaps thousands, of the best military minds in the world, squirreled away in underground bunkers, mountain retreats, etc., waging a relentless guerrilla campaign against enemy invaders. And you hope you can maintain it for years and convince the aliens that the Earth, and whatever they might be after here (in the show, it was amino acids), wasn’t worth it. Because we’d have no other choice.
