Looks to me like the poor thing was sleepy, and the caterwauling was keeping it awake.

The kitty cat is darling.

It could be, though, the noise is bothering its hearing.

Kitty cats don’t like ear-piercing loud noises, especially high pitched noises.

I was watching a kitten playing in the dirt today.

It seemed to be ping-ponging something in its front claws.

Then the kitten gave out a yelp.

It seemed like the poor kitten was saying "I lost my bug that I caught."

It actually started to dig in the ground after it...

You never know, bugs can be a fun toy to play with in the dirt!
