Last year I had blight on my tomatoes.

There is nothing better.

Amen. Unfortunately; I will be waiting a few more months, as I am marooned in the People's Republik of New England. Fortunately; I will have roughly 150 different kinds to pick from come August.

I really need to cut back. Maybe in 2014...

Is your farm close to the Mississippi River?

How do you grow your tomatoes? Ground, raised beds, containers? Blight can come from plants getting too wet or bad neighbors...

I would be having a better time with my garden if only some neighborhood kids would stop vandalizing the planters! The police have been called, pictures of the carnage taken. Strangely, haven’t seen a kid around for days. Think I’ll try planting again. Mostly herbs and flowers. Have a great Memorial weekend everybody. And many. many thanks to our wonderful military for the fine job they do for this country.

It looks like your brewing ping list has grown pretty good this week thanks to the garden thread. The combo of gardening and brewing kinda goes together well.

Thank you!
In our last move, I brought the rose with me. We definitley do not live in rose country, (hot, high winds, worst soil and water on the face of the earth). It has survived, but has lost it’s beauty.
I’m sure your reply is correct, and very interesting!

Mr. Bender....Sorry to hear about your bad weather. To let you know that we are thinking of you, I'll send you a couple pictures of what I found in the garden this morning ;)

P.S.- The tomatoes are still green.☺

I have a Jumbo and Alachua variety that I bought at a local nursery a couple weeks ago, so trying to grow muscadines will be a starter for me

I've been having trouble with the rest of my grapes. The Concord and Fredonia all look like they have serious chlorosis, but the addition of iron hasn't helped.

I also have a Black Spanish and a Brilliant which are doing fine for 1 year old plants in this high pH soil I have to contend with. These two are cultivars bred for the area.

The amazing ones are the supermarket plants (planted from seeds from supermarket grapes). Those are all growing the way I expect grapes to grow. In fact, one of the grapes appeared to have died back in March, then re-sprouted at the base and is now approximately 5ft tall.

Yes gardening, brewing and eating (Weekly Recipe Thread) all go together. Some on the Homebrewing list are growing their own Hops or Barley so I plan to link a post to the gardening and recipe threads in my first Monthly post of the Homebrewing thread on June 1st. I am hoping the Monthly thread will be well received.

You have some good looking produce there! I envy your Acorn, Zukes and Yellow squash. I have not had much luck growing any kind of squash in the past.

Have you tried an iron foliar or an all purpose foliar (that also has iron) such as this which is available in my Home Depots at least. All below are chelated minerals and iron

http://www.southernag.com/docs/labels_msds/chcitr.pdf

Iron foliar http://www.irrigation-mart.com/Documents/Chemicals/ironchelatedp.pdf (they have one chelated iron drench for high ph soil and one for low) (but all can be used as foliars) (think chelates!!! whether foliar or into the soil)

I have Ison’s black http://www.isons.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=IN&Product_Code=Potted_Muscadines and a few other muscadines climbing. The vines are so beautiful to see putting out tendrils and branching out
