The Euro mfrs have some awesome diesel powerplants that we rarely get due to the regulatory costs of getting EPA and NHTSA approval. A different engine in a previously approved car makes it a completely different car from a regulatory perspective, which kills engine innovation.
Sounds like GE and GM do not want competition. Markets manipulated by pure politics are not free markets. If we want the Beamer, or any other car we like, we should be able to get it. If I was still military I would buy a pair and have one “imported”. Ah.. how I miss the good ol days.
