This brutal knockout blow turned a boxer's face to mush - making him look more like jelly than a prized jouster.
Tony Pietrantonio came crashing to the canvas in the 31st second of the third round following the devastating right-hander from fellow U.S. light heavyweight Lavarn Harvell.
Harvell, 23 - dubbed Baby Bowe because of his resemblance to former heavyweight champ Riddick Bowe - said: 'I felt that punch all the way up my shoulder and back, so I knew he wasnt getting up.

Can u say ... "Pasted ... ???"
It’s going to hurt a lot more 20-30 years from now when he likely gets Alzheimer’s or Parkinsons’ Disease, or some such.
I do not believe this picture. Who’s with me?
The pic is real. There are several others at the site.
Looks real. The man’s head is strongly accelerating backward and to the left (of the frame) from the force of the blow. Basically the soft tissues are being “left behind” by the movement of the bony structures. You can see it most clearly in the lips and ears. There is also a secondary effect of a “pressure wave” from the contact of the glove. That is evident in the Marciano picture as well.
I recall some film segments that showed his face rippling.
Is that what that is???
I thought that was a before and after image of him looking at a Helen Thomas picture.
Exactly - his brain is accelerating and decelerating in tandem, and basically being jostled around in the skull. That chap just experienced pretty good concussions that will come back to haunt him later on.
How did you manage to get the word "Turns" into the title twice? Didn't you copy and paste from the article's source which has the correct title?
It’s real.
I do not believe this picture. Whos with me?
Believe it. That is ‘torque’ twisting the features (doesn’t do much for the brain either). I’ve seen this in the backpages a million times over the years.
If you go back and look through boxing pictures, you’ll find a lot of pics like that. Momma, don’t let your babies grow up to be boxers!
The Marciano-Walcott shot is one of the greatest pics in boxing history. It was the 13th round of their first championship fight. Marciano was clearly losing — and he won with a knockout with this single punch.
Walcott later said that he never saw the punch coming. The two had headbutted early in the fight. Just before this punch, Walcott had pulled back from a Marciano punch, and some blood had dripped into his left eye. So, when Rocky threw the right hook, Jersey Joe did nothing to pull away from the full impact.
Jersey Joe later said, “Had I seen it coming, I would have pulled back. Rocky threw the punch so hard, he likely would have spun himself around and fallen to the canvas, too tired to get back up.
By the way, Jersey Joe lost the rematch to Rocky in the second round of the fight.
Darn I thought the headline was referring to Barbara Boxer.
I think it’s probably real. If you’ve ever seen some extreme slow-motion of things like a punch to the face, it’s pretty remarkable how rubbery A face can look.
I'm not sure that this picture is of "the punch." It appears that both men are essentially parallel to the ropes - in the knockout sequence Walcott had his back to the ropes and Marciano had his back to the center of the ring. Marciano landed several big right hands late in the fight, so this could be one of those. Anyway, it is an impressive punch.
The final punch is probably the greatest single punch ever thrown. While you might be able to point to devastating knockout punches just as impressive, none will match Marciano's in terms of historical importance. It launched the Rocky Marciano era and salvaged a victory from what was probably the closest Marciano ever came to losing a fight. It allows Marciano to begin his reign and end his career as the only universally-recognized undefeated world champion.
I was thinking about that same punch as I scrolled down and saw your post. That is my all time favorite knockout. Jersey Joe was giving Marciano all he could handle until Rocky landed the punch that won him the fight. It’s too bad we don’t have many men like this in boxing today.
Hehehe.....
