Vikings Players Hit Capitol As Stadium Votes Near

Their goal finally in sight, the Minnesota Vikings summoned star power Wednesday to put extra pressure on state lawmakers nearing decisive votes on public financing for a new pro football stadium.

Running back Adrian Peterson, linebacker Chad Greenway and center John Sullivan lent aid to a franchise lobbying team of nine, which is counting heads for an expected House vote as soon as Thursday and guiding the bid for a nearly $1 billion stadium through its final Senate committees.

In a barely 30-minute visit, the players chatted with legislators and posed for pictures with Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton.

“It’s a team effort. We’re just showing our support,” Peterson said. “Legislators, those guys are really pushing to pass this bill. They have tough decisions to make and discussions to have. We’re just here to let these guys know that we support them.”

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Paul Thissen said he expected his Democratic caucus to put up votes in the “high 20s to low 30s,” leaving majority Republicans to make up the difference needed for a 68-vote minimum. Thissen, who pledged his personal support, predicted passage.

This crap needs to end. I don’t give a flying FIG if the Vikings leave, and I happen to like football. We don’t need to build them a new stadium. Nothing wrong with the old one, especially when we spent a mint to put a new roof on it. Screw ‘em! I don’t care! Go away, don’t let the door hit you in the a** on the way out!

Not if they put that stupid sliding roof on it.

Lord how I detest those inside games.

I long for the days of frozen fields, snow storms, and sidelines full of steaming black guy heads.

The prices for games is so outrageous. Hell, to park at Cowboys Stadium it cost $25! They should pay for their own stadiums and get it back through sales. Cut Peterson’s pay a little. He’d never notice it.

Vikings? They have a problem. It’s like sending 3 players(all white) down to Mississippi to kiss Bret Farves butt just to get him to come back and play for millions. It’s just not their issue.

What type of taxes is the state going to add?

Here in Indiana they put a big tax on restaurant meals for the Irsays’ 700 million palace.

All those (highly scalpable) seats for the Super Bowl going to the politicians were just too good to turn down....

They even passed a law making everything involved with the Super Bowl non-taxable.

This deal is so lucrative that the team actually gets all the revenue from non-NFL events like concerts and basketball games played in the stadium.

Don't do it!

The Vikings are not going to give free or reduced priced tickets to local taxpayers, are they?

Just how stupid are you people?
Never mind.
I saw it happen in Tampa.
Tear down an old stadium, build a new one, and lets all just pretend taxpayers funds were wisely spent to “keep the team” since it is SO beneficial to the community...

Vancouver retrofitted their dome and it was very similar to the metrodome.

It could be done, but Ziggy won’t settle for anything less than what he wants.

In that case, put me down as an emphatic NO to the ViQueens. Let them pay for their own damn stadium!

Insurance covered it.

If you build it, hopefully they won’t come (in my dreams, I know).
