My BGF was in Romania when Ceausescu was deposed.
The country was littered with filthy, polluting factories that blighted the environment so much that there was a totally grey city (where cement was produced), a totally red city (where bauxite was produced) etc.
And then of course there were the hundreds of orphanages, where they disposed of their children.
Communism is satanic.
In Czechoslovakia (1989) I saw brilliant colored smoke plumes
spilling from factory stacks and beautiful old marble
statuary from Baroque times so eaten away by acid rain
as to be barely recognizable. The rain stings on the face
due to the acid content. I also saw where hazardous chems
and oil were just dumped by the roadside. This in Bohemia,
a lush and beautiful province. In North Moravia mining has
turned the landscape into a moonscape.
Thanks to Communism, no one owned any mess.
