Karen Carpenter had more talent in her pinky finger than all of today’s singers combined. Adele, Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood-—they’re all screechers. She had a perfect voice and sadly died too soon. The stuff she sang 40 years ago is better than most of the garbage you hear today. I listen to their Christmas album every year. Her “Ave Maria” is top-notch. Name someone with a better voice. They may not be your cup of tea, but they did have enormous talent.

I don’t disagree about her voice. The anorexia thing, though, still stings after all these years.
Her voice was like hot buttered rum. I’ll give you that. Or a rusty nail. Magnificent. And she had a rep for getting it right on the first try in recording.
