It is highly unlikely that Newt can capture the nomination, so what would be the best role for him ? It has been reported that he wants to be Secretary of State. That might be the post that captures Newt’s ego, but I don’t think it fits his purpose.

This country needs a major monumental re-education of its founding principles. Newt is an amazing professor. I’d like to see him as Secretary of Education. But I don’t want him doing battles with unions and getting down in the weeds. That is the job of each state legislature. Newt can downsize the department- even abolish it for all I care.

Just like Spiro Agnew attacked the nabobs of negativism, Newt could join forces with David Horowitz and become a dynamic duo in reforming universities and getting the feds out of local schools. But even that is secondary to the ultimate purpose.

I want Newt to become the nation’s professor in civic duty and pride. This country, and especially its youth, need a re-awakening. I feel a change rolling across this land. The hand of the Tea Party is about to be felt, and Newt can be in the vanguard of renewing our nation’s purpose.

Reagan changed the world with the power of his words. Newt can’t change the world, but he has the gift to change our country and teach the young.

As Newt was rising becasue of his debate performance, there was a brief discussion in my workplace about him. I commented that more and more I was being drawn to support him. (Initially I was highly skeptical and view him as yesterday's news!) A work colleague commented well he couldn't support Newt because he didn't understand anything Newt was saying. This was not a stupid poorly educated (college) guy, he was a former Navy enlisted, played the stock market with some success again not stupid. Newt's idea oriented approach to issues based in US history and Constitutional context clearly didn't interest him and may have even bored him. I guess he was someone whose political context is completely built on sound bites. I now think that a majority of the electorate on both sides are like that.

I guess the point for me is, ‘You can lead voters to the polls but don't dare ask them to think!’
