Bass Pro Shop advertising a Bushmaster AR15 O.R.C. M4 (Optics Ready Carbine) 16", 30-rd, collapsible stock.
Curious about any FReeper experience with this carbine.
Priced at $979.99
Out of stock at most of the usual places online, so I thought it might be a popular firearm.
What is the FReeper opinion of this?
This is a .223/5.56 NATO rifle. Not gonna debate .223 v .308 on this thread. That is a different purchase.
Please provide your USEFUL opinions.

I like my AR-15 in .223 for varmints. It’s nice, reliable, and it also swaps out with a .50 upper that is an awful lot of fun!
I’m sure it will be fine. One AR is pretty much the same as another in that price range.
I have seen this exact model you’re wanting for close to $100 less than your price, however.
Buy one from Palmetto state armory. You’ll get a better rifland save $.
I know someone with a Bushmaster .223 and have shot it quite a bit. Nice rifle. We only used Remington ammo, and it never jammed, but I don’t know how it handles the cheap stuff. Buy a Lula mag loader and lots of extra magazines.
Thanks. I’ll check it out.
When you say “better”, you mean better than Bushmaster or better than Bass Pro’s inventory of the same rifle?
Just get it.
Not sure my opinion worth anything.
Still distraught after a terrible boating accident and a huge wave swept over us taking all my rifles and ammo to the bottom of the ocean.
Just so confused these days.
Palmetto out of stock on ALL AR-15s except a $1200 barebones PSA.
;-)
Very tempting.
Lots of online catalogs with “out of stock” right now.
Bird in the hand.
That 16” rifle with a decent red dot scope is a fine home defense unit.
I’m so sorry for your loss. My wife withheld sex until I took all of my guns 3 miles out into Lake Michigan and threw them overboard. This is my rifle, this is my gun...
I bought one about 3 years ago and it shoots fine. Been running Remmington UMC through it as well as some XM193. No problems at all.
The price seems reasonable. I think that I was @ $899 when I bought it but it was in the same ballpark as what you’re looking at.
I’m not sure if it is the same version or if you have Academy Sports near you, but they have the Bushmaster ORC at $900. I find with Academy that it pays to call up stores near you since stock varies by store. But if it is not in stock they can get it anyway from one of their other stores.

No! Your proper response should have been, “God, I’m gonna miss that woman!!”
So, how many did you add to the collection? :)
They have it listed as .233 (typo) but do not say that it will handle the 5.56 round.
They’re nice rifles. Like someone else mentioned, all pretty much the same.
I own a S&W M&P 15 223 (OR), and love it. Threw some Troy battle sights and an Eotech on it, and it shot so well, don’t really need to practice with it.
Handguns, on the other hand...
This is not a USEFUL opinion. Tough noogies.
Love the rifle.
Check Windham Weaponry - very cool story and very high quality product. Might also save a few bucks.
Bushmaster got bought out 5 years ago. The founder got a 5 year non-compete and a promise to keep his boys at work in Windham, ME.
They moved the factory to NY in March. They must forgot about the non-compete being up, or figured the founder was 77, what was he going to do?
Well, he came out of retirement, re-opened his old (Bushmaster) factory, rehired his guys (the ones who made the brand), and they are selling AR-15s under the “Windham Weaponry” name.
Check it out.
Check out the Stag Model 3.
