He didn’t win it alone, he also had help from aides.

>>Vinny (and Chick across town) were the soundtracks of my youth.<<

Don’t forget Jerry Doggett — our #2 baseball commentator was heads and shoulders above almost everyone else’s #1 (Vinny is in a class by himself).

I wonder if Magic is going to treat the Dodgers like his new TV network and only welcome African Americans to the stadium.

Wow, worst memory evah! Sacks aka Sax and Lopes may have played on a softball team where you might have two 2b’s, but not the Dodgers. It was Garvey, Lopes, Russell and Cey in the 1970’s (mostly)IF. Sutton was the 60’s and 70’s, Hough was the 70’s and mostly out of the pen and the Bulldog was 1983-1994. If you saw this staff, you’re the only one. The team spirit was its best ever when they won the WS in 1988 with a squad of over-achievers. Worst world champion evah!!

Video of Kirk Gibson limping to the plate and taking Eckersley deep in the World Series. Truly amazing. You never know in sports. Oakland was the prohibitive favorite, but the Dodgers got ‘em.

Saw so many games pitched by Koufax and Drysdale. Saw Willie D hit in games 29, 30, and 31. Saw the Toy Cannon beat the Reds with a 7th inning grandslam. Saw Wills steal a ton of bases. Never did a baseball stadium rock as it did when Wills got to first and no one was in front of him. 50,000 chanting GO! GO! GO!. My son's first game was when he was about 2 on Dodger camera day. I have a photo of him being held by Garbey (as he called him.) Was at Duke Snider night in the Coliseum at the end of the Duke's career. He got a home run and triple that night. Saw a steal of home at Dodger Stadium but don't remember who did it. I saw this: In his Major league debut on April 12, 1962 against the Cincinnati Reds at Dodger Stadium, Pete Richert set a record by striking out the first six batters he faced. His Dodgers trailing 4-0, he entered the game with two outs in the top of the second inning and struck out Vada Pinson for the final out. Richert then recorded a four-strikeout third inning in which his victims were Frank Robinson (his future Oriole teammate), Gordy Coleman (who reached first base on a passed ball by Johnny Roseboro), Wally Post and Johnny Edwards; his record-tying sixth strikeout was of Tommy Harper leading off the fourth. To date, Richert is the only pitcher to record a four-strikeout inning in his Major League debut. Richert won the game in 3⅓ innings of relief, giving up no hits or walks and striking out seven. That year, he went 5-4 as a spot starter in a rotation led by the future Hall-of-Fame duo of Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax. In 1963 he went 5-3 on a Dodger team that won the World Series; Richert did not pitch in the Series, which the Dodgers swept from the New York Yankees
