They still do some good stuff. This is the single best documentary on the rise and fall of te 3rd reich that I’ve seen.

He should present legislation to require them to carry history programs and nothing but history programs. The nerve of these networks to show what they want

They’ll program what gives them the ratings. Hey, I’ll have to admit I like watching Swamp People, but it does seem to be more of an Outdoor Channel(a favorite ch of mine) type show. I like IRC and Pawn Stars too.

I love the Military channel, but wish I could get it in HD from Comcast here in North Ga. We just started getting the Smithsonian Chan here and in HD. They’ve had some good WWII history shows.

The Third Reich series was really good. We watched it twice.

Here comes the But....they have too much made up swill most of the time. Some of it isn’t history. It is projecting a leftie based future based on Gorebull warming and other pap.

Mudcats, Pickers, Pawn Stars, Swamp People, what the hell? I couldn't agree more with the senator.

Have you or the senator watched those shows? They do in fact give lots of history. True they may also use a story plot in doing so. American Restoration is also good for history. If you watch Pawn Stars you usually will see several history experts on various subjects per show. Swamp People teaches a lot of history as well.

The Universe is a good science show but it doesn’t belong on the history channel. It needs to be on Discovery or TLC.

Lets face it. History is CNN. The left doesn’t care for people to know history.

Thats why I decided to hang onto my old, real old encyclopedias.

LOL

Every ancient structure was built by or with the help from aliens, didn’t you know?

They built a shed in my backyard. I don't know how, without a building permit, but there it is!

Hey, I like watching Ice Road Truckers!

Yes, Ice Road Truckers is cool.

I would add that the Pickers and Pawns do cover the history of American artifacts.

I guess one could say that the History Channel could do a better job of programming, but then again where does that leave all the other stinking channels?

And perhaps the Senator would best spend his time while he's on the clock serving his constituents by discussing more important topics, and more germane topics to his job responsibilities, such as how Obama is destroying our country.

And if Grassley is so inclined to discuss cable TV programming, perhaps a comment about how stinking terrible cable news is, would best in order.

But of course he's not up to that. He'd rather trash people who kill gators and people who celebrate Americana.

Government Official Charles Ernest "Chuck" Grassley doesn't approve.

History Channel and their parent corporation’s other related channels, as well as Discvorty etc, have gone off the rails.

Compare them to the channels in Ireland, Australia, Netherlands, UK. Canada, all with substantially lower potential audiences and budgets, and substantially better programming, both by quality and quantity.

The C level Executives at US TV channels have utterly failed at promoting their own self interest. It’s a sad commentary on the state of affairs in this country.

LOL that must be where my new greenhouse/porch came from.

Had to be aliens, there’s just no other reasonable explanation. I couldn’t have done it, I didn’t even have a permit.

sorry, had to fix that for you. :)

With the spread of digital cable they have a better handle on what people actually want to watch than ever before. The Hitler Channel didn't switch to showing a Vegas pawn shop's wares on a whim.

I majored in history, and absolutely love the stuff. I remember how much I enjoyed the Hitler channel, but I also enjoy watching swamp people and pawn stars. I can't explain it.

There’s only so many ways you can portray Hitler and WWII.
Because there was only 1 war in four millenia of recorded history. It is the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 (declared by idiot Democrat-Republicans on 6/1/12) the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, and we are around the corner from the 100th anniversary of the Great War. It is the 100th anniversary of the Republic of China. Should I continue, or do you get the point?

This is not about a lack of material, but about the sloth and intellectual incuriousness of the American people, and the contempt advertisers have for history and America in a global marketplace. Then again, perhaps we are lucky. Most new history on the "History Channel" is absolute dreck. "The Color of War" and "World War 2 in HD" were full of anachronism and errors and put visuals above fact. They also placed greater import on interviews of privates on resperators over what actually happened on the ground. Crappy, crappy, history. The equivalent of a sixth-graders report on WW2 talking about grandpa instead of the assignment.*

*I am not disrespecting vets. I admire those who served and the sacrifices of those on the homefront. But sociology is not history and "perspectives" is socialist garbage. I do think that kids would do well to learn the stories, but not every story matters. My mother is trying to get my father's story published, but the truth is that it pales in comparison to that of his father. However, my grandfather has been dead 36 years, so the point is moot.

Having the Senator present legisation is the VERY LAST thing that needs to be done. right now Maryland senate has passed a bill outlawing smoking in cars if there is a child less than 8 years old in the car. More nanny state. And you want nanny tv laws? I hope you were joking in your post.
