It’s quite strange to see him sans ‘stache.
Yes, I’ve heard he was the most-photographed man of his day, so I guess he was like the 19th century version of Brad Pitt.
Apparently so. Picture cards of him sold in the thousands and thousands. Even with the photo technology of the day, I can attest to the eye-candy value, on a purely artistic level of course.
