GETTYSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- Bobblehead dolls of the man who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln have been pulled from sale in Gettysburg National Military Park's visitors' center.

Dolls of John Wilkes Booth with a handgun were taken off bookstore shelves Saturday, a day after a reporter from Hanover's The Evening Sun newspaper asked about them.

It seemed like such a good idea at the time.

“Dolls of John Wilkes Booth with a handgun...”

####

Poor taste exemplified.

But as a freaking bobblehead, the image is undeniably hilarious.

If only I had a case or two of them. They’d bring a fortune in a few years on ebay.

But they are keeping the Mary Todd Lincoln-branded Zoloft on the shelves?

I expect that the manufacturer will have no trouble selling them now that they’ve gained notoriety.

Dang! All I needed was Charles Guiteau and Booth and I would have had the complete set.

The sad irony of the situation is that Booth screwed his beloved South over big time by killing Lincoln.

“...with malice toward none.” Lincoln wanted to go easy on the South to help heal the country faster.

Some northerners wanted to execute every confederate government leader (and probably soldier) as a traitor.

A little bit of trivia...

...In NYC's central park there is a statue of William Shakespeare. The statue was in part funded by an 1864 performance of Shakespeare's Julius Ceasar, the cast of which included the brothers Edwin, Junius and John Wilkes Booth (at left)

And coincidentally, the suspect package sent to Rush’s house was from a guy commemorating the assassination of Lincoln. I don’t usually believe in coincidence.

Since you can't really tell the Booth brothers apart (John Wilkes is on the far left), I would think they could just rebrand the bobble-heads for Edwin and sell them as it.

Edwin, interestingly, saved Lincoln's son's life on a railroad platform in New Jersey not long before John Wilkes killed the president.

Edwin also was a featured speaker at Gettysburg Cemetery at one time. I took the tour there some years ago and they pointed out how cemeteries at the time were actually designed to be venues to attract picnickers, orators and other programs.
