I am always nostalgic for the original Star Trek series ... I grew up watching the episodes as a kid. I just don't like any of the newer series, spinoffs and movies though.

I'll link more photos from Flickr: birdofthegalaxy's Photostream on this thread.

If you are an old skool Star Trek fan ... enjoy!

Spock's Beard Close up of Spock with beard in his cabin from the TOS episode Mirror, Mirror. This is consistently one of the favorite shows as selected by fans.

I was a young adolescent with hormones on overdrive when I first saw that episode. My eyes must have been as big as saucers. After all these years she is still looking hot. If they ever did locate a planet with these gals, I would be begging the Government to give NASA more money. Hint to NASA – search harder.
The only problem is if we did find the Orion Girls, my wife wouldn’t let me keep one.

I’m actually watching the 2009 Star Trek movie on FX right now, and they just showed the scene with Kirk in bed with Uhura’s green-skinned Orion girl roommate :)

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve forwarded it to my oldest son. He’s 45, and a Star Trek nerd.

I remember reading a funny story about Susan Oliver and the green body makeup.

They were doing test shots for the makeup, so they filmed her with the green makeup on. The next day, the film came back from the lab, and Oliver had normal skin color.

The filmmakers were surprised, and the director gave the order to "paint her greener." So they painted her "greener" and tried again. The next day, the film came back from the lab, showing Oliver with normal skin color.

They finally realized that each night, the guy developing and printing the test film was freaking out at what appeared to be a woman with green skin. So, he would filter the light when making the print to bring her skin tone back to normal.

No one had told him that she was supposed to be green.

Wow. Captain Kirk was my boyfriend when I was 4 years old. And so was James West. Started watching them both in the early 70’s.

How ‘bout Angelique Pettyjohn? According to Shatner she was well up for it, as her later career choice showed.

Cool pix, thanks!

If you watch the later episodes closely, I swear you can see McCoy almost breaking character when he gets ready to say “He’s dead, Jim”.

Worthy of mention is Star Trek The Animated Series (1973–1974). While the animation was marginal, they used serious plot lines that can be argued are good enough to be considered canon.

This is a GREAT thread!

TOS is my favorite, but I also (heresy) enjoyed the last few seasons of DS9. I think that having to compete with B5 made them up their game.

TOS had the best musical score by far, something not usually commented on.

I was in my 20s and married when the original series came on. It was one of my favorite shows. Maybe a year ago, I used a Netflix gift subscription to order dvds of those old shows.

There were some very good episodes, in fact some of them were near great. There were also a few boring ones.

On some of the dvd’s they had comments from the various people involved with the show. I recall one with the prop manager. They had an extremely low budget. He said their favorite place to get props was the Paramount trash bins.

Interesting, I never noticed that Vina's Orion Slave Girl ("green girls" for any non-Trekkies reading) had such long, pointed nails until these new photos. I don't think they kept that trait with later slave girls (Yvonne Craig seemed to have it a bit in "Whom Gods Destroy" but not to the extent Susan Oliver did when she played Vina) Kinda wish they kept that.

Galia in Star Trek '09 was pretty "tame" compared to past slave girls but she was a cadet at Starfleet Academy so that was unusual for an Orion to begin with. The ones in Star Trek Enterprise actually appeared to be more sultry than the ones in TOS:

But the ones that seemed the most "off" to me where the male Orions in Star Trek: The Animated Series. WTH? They didn't even give them green skin. They have the skin tone of Andorians:
