I want to go on record giving kudos to SA's custom shop.
The trigger on that handgun was about the same as a staple gun all the time I've had it. Lots of creep and overtravel, decent reset but just nothing like my SA Black Stainless (best trigger on any firearm I own). I haven't put any lead downrange with it yet but dry firing it a few times ... I think I'll be happy. No creep and hardly any overtravel, breaks pretty crisp and is definitely an upgrade to my favorite carry piece.
I still find it weird they are in Illinois, one of the least friendly states in the union for gun owners.
Thanx Springield, y'all are still my favorite when I have to deal with customer service.
Thanks for the vanity. I’ve got an XD in .45 ACP and the only thing I don’t love about the piece is the trigger creep. I have considered sending back to have one of those jobs done but haven’t been able to find anyone who’d had them do the work.
So I really appreciate the post. Thanks again.
I'm an Armalite fan, and have long had that same thought about my marque of choice...
Check out the powder river trigger kits. They are great.
Well, it ain’t cheap, but I really like this gun and I wanted it to work betterer. $184 on the old Visa.
I totally love my XD40! I tend to agree regarding the out of the box factory trigger.
Do you have any links, or additional info on this “combat trigger job” of which you speak? I’d be very interested in such a thing myself.
I just hit their site on the web and went to the “Customer Service” link. Called ‘em up and asked about options. They do a “target” job but 2.5 lbs of pull scares the hell out of me. The “combat” job is rated at 4-4.5 lbs and judging by how it feels I’d say that is about right.
Can’t wait to hit the range this weekend. Prolly put at least a hunnerd through it, just to be sure ;)
I had to ship the .45 in once because the trigger strut broke (darn MMC bits) and again, I was treated very well. I’ll buy from those folks again, even though a lot of their stuff is from other countries. Try getting that kind of satisfaction from your cable company or the DMV.
Oooopsy, meant “hammer strut.”
Thanks for the info- I haven’t used them yet, but my carry gun is a 1911a1 loaded, and I love it.
Just bought an XD(M) 45 Compact as an upgrade to my XD-40sc. The trigger on the XD(M) is much, much better.
I have heard this. Haven’t handled one yet, but there might be a 9mm 5.25 in my future, just for the sheer fun of shooting.
Thanks for the info!
I’m in the market, looking a at XDMs. Like the Compacts too but have heard the 45s and 40s are uncomfortably ‘torquy’. 9mms seems to not get the same complaints. There are quite a few low round 40s for sale so I had assumed it was because of that affliction. What’s your opinion?
My 40sc did have muzzle flip, but it was extremely manageable, and the design brought the barrel back on target quickly. Normally I would sell it, but it’s been so good to me I can’t part with it. Over 1200 rounds without a hiccup, and despite everyday carry, she looks new (she gets cleaned after shooting and once a week).
I suspect the .40s are out there now because of the new compact - same amount of rounds in a 3.8” .45. Don’t pass up a good deal on the 40sc!
Thanks.
It shot true right out of the box and accurate as hell. Love it. Wish I had it in 45 though.
I’ve got a buddy with quite the collection. Those XDm packages are very nice. no question about it. He says his XDm 9 3.8 has a manageable, but snappy recoil torque, where his 1911 45 is smooth, and seems to absorb the recoil better. We’re guessing it’s a result of the weight of each.
I had my sights set on a XDm 9 compact, but after handling his regular XDm 9mm 3.8, I’m really liking that set up. Part of the issue for me was the compacts pretty much needing the extended mag for it to feel substantial enough in hand. So why not just get the non compact version to start with.
But like I say, I see a bunch of sexyXDm 40s out there.....
And cost of ammo is a small consideration....
Decisions, decisions.
You never know when a compact will be needed, IMHO. I like having a compact and being able to turn it into a “full-size” - I can’t do that the other way around.
Ammo cost is a consideration - I’ve sent 500+ .45 ACP rounds downrange since I bought the firearm on 2/15. I try not to think about how much I’ve spent doing that.
But I’m so happy with it, seeing the 9mm cheaper doesn’t really bother me anymore. Every consideration and need is different for every user, so I can’t help you make the decision about caliber...but I will wholeheartedly recommend the firearm.
Point taken. Since I'm looking at 3.8s the only dif is mag/grip length.
