Maybe I'm seeing things that aren't there. It'll be interesting to see how many freepers have $30,000 in cash lying around the house.

i would imagine there are plenty of people that have that amount of money locked up in a home safe. doesn’t sound unreasonable to me. having the money in their safe wasn’t the problem, not being prepared to defend it was.
If they did, and I’m sure plenty probably do, if they admit it on an internet forum, they don’t have an ounce of sense.
Looking at their home, they seem to be far wealthier than I am. Percentage wise I probably have a similar amount of cash on hand in the safe. And in the envelope hanging from a string inside the wall, and in the drawer, and some stashed in the truck, and ....

Immigrants often conduct business in cash and do not trust banks. The victim spoke Portuguese so he’s probably an immigrant.
Oh, yeah, because anyone would advertise that fact, d'oh. That said, friends of mine in BiH would often have large amounts of money in their home safes during the war. They didn't trust the banks, and the UN.
I was shocked that having $250,000 wasn't considered strange. A UN body did eventually seize bank monies in certain areas, and said the "audit" would take two years. There went the money for pensions, some police, teachers, etc...
