Port St. Lucie Iced Tea Flap Brews Discord, Jail Stint During Super Bowl

A 50-year-old woman accused of dousing her dad with iced tea on Super Bowl Sunday was arrested, even though she said the chilled beverage soaking was an act of "self defense," a recently released report states.

The apparent tossed tea tumult began brewing Feb. 5 as a 79-year-old man told Port St. Lucie police he argued with his daughter, Jacqueline Collins, the Port St. Lucie police report states. He said the disagreement at his Southeast Victory Avenue home in Port St. Lucie was over food.

After quarreling briefly, the man sat on the couch to watch the Super Bowl, a championship football game pitting the winners of the National Football Conference against the winners of the American Football Conference. The man said that just after he sat down on the couch, Collins "poured a glass of iced tea all over him." He said he got up, pushed her out of the way and called police.

The report didn't state whether the iced tea, a non-alcoholic beverage prepared by soaking dried tea leaves in boiling water and then chilling, was sweetened. Iced tea is not to be confused with "Tea for One," a song from Led Zeppelin's "Presence" album, which was released on March 31, 1976, or high tea, an English reference to a somewhat substantial, early evening meal frequently considered the day's main meal.

Collins told police she'd argued with her father about food she gave her 10-year-old son. She said she told her father not to tell her what to do with her son, and her dad pushed her and said he'll do as he wants.

She said she followed him to the living room where he sat on the couch. She accused him of trying to stand and push her again, so she poured the tea "in self defense." The 10-year-old son said Collins' father pushed Collins while he was on the couch, also saying the tea pouring was in "self defense."

"Although I had conflicting statements about the pushing and shoving that was allegedly done by (Collins' father) to Jacqueline, I was able to confirm that the tea was poured onto (Collins' father) while he was sitting on the couch," a report states.

Police arrested Collins on a misdemeanor battery charge. As for the Super Bowl, the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots, 21 - 17.

I’m kinda liking this reporter’s effort to make the ridiculous mundane. Good show, eh, what!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ya know. I’m so glad they clarified that for us. I was just wondering the other day about that.
Shame on all involved. Shame on the women for pouring ice tea on her elderly father. Shame on the father for calling the police over getting a little tea in his lap. And shame on the police for actually taking the call seriously and making an arrest instead of just telling the parties not to tie up law enforcement for a nonsense call.
I’m guessing the Einstein cop was able to deduce that by the fact that the father was soaking wet with a clear brown liquid substance running down his body.
The reporter forgot to tell readers what a couch is.
