I do think she’s right that Newt will lose. But maybe another 4 years of Obama is inevitable in any event. Focus on gaining ground in the Congress.

“I do think she’s right that Newt will lose.”

Why? Do you think a different candidate would do better against him? If so, who?

You may think Newt will lose, But, you can’t possibly believe Romney can beat Obama. Romney is Obama, the white version. If the elites get tired of Obama, they may well see Romney as a suitable replacement because he’ll do what Obama planned to do.

We need someone in there who can fight Obama, not someone who will promise to be more like Obama than Obama. Newt can fight. Romney is clone-light.

I do think she’s right that Newt will lose.

Let's assume that Newt will lose and that Romney will lose and that Santorum will lose and that Ron Paul will lose.

I can very easily envision a scenario where Newt puts together a battle plan similar to the Contract With America or some sort of Tea Party Manifesto, which is adopted by 100 people running for Congress / Senate, and I could very easily some of those people winning elections in 2012 and in 2014 and in 2016.

I could also see Ron Paul inspiring some people to run as Libertarian-Leaning Republicans and a few of them actually winning, similar to the way Rand Paul won his Senate seat.

I don't see anyone really following Mitt and running as a "Mitt Romney Republican". The only politician I've ever seen campaigning as a "Mitt Romney Republican" was Meg Whitman, and she was slaughtered after spending $140 million of her own money.

Similarly, you didn't see very many "George W Bush Republicans" running in 2006 or 2008 when the Republicans got slaughtered, even though Bush won the 2004 election (largely due to the efforts of grass-roots Swiftboaters who were never thanked by the party).

It doesn't matter if Romney is "the most conservative" or if Newt is "just saying stuff to get elected". Newt is giving Republican candidates a blueprint showing them exactly how they can energize the base and maybe actually get some votes. Rather than complain about it, start doing it yourself. Become more Newty than Newt. Really tear into Obama. Really challenge the media. Talk directly to the base instead of letting your surrogates do it.

Gaining ground in Congress is a very tough go when the top of the ticket is getting smacked by the incumbent. Right now we’ll be doing well to tread water in Congress. The candidates are flawed and the media will higlight every one and ignore anything harmful to Obama. Have you heard of F&F and Solyndra anywhere but FOX?
