If I was law enforcement.. the first question I would ask is what is the name of the EX-girlfriend?
To: BenLurkin
Why is the shooter “unnamed”? Not white?

FYI There are no White People anywhere near this area, This is right in the middle of the Ghetto, Which by the way is the entire San Fernando Valley with the exception of the very outskirts.

The motive for the shooting was not known, Rayner said. Find out if the victim was on the winning or losing team and they'll have their first clue as to motive.
I'm guessing he let in the losing goal for his team.

A better way to evaluate a neighborhood is to go to Greatschools.
http://www.greatschools.org/cgi-bin/ca/other/2409#toc
83% Latino
7% Asian
3% Black (they are growing in numbers fast)
3% White
2% Filipino
Students eligible for free breakfast, lunch and dinner: 87%
English learners: 56%

I saw an old episode of Dragnet recently. I'm guessing it was late '50's vintage. The crime under investigation was fraud in the door-to-door sale of magazine subscriptions. The "sales" people were impersonating a nurse or a marine veteran.
That was an interesting look at crime during the period. I then watched a new show called Bait Car. This shows LAPD in 2011 putting decoy bait cars on the street and waiting for them to be stolen. From the 30 minutes I spent with the show, it seems in 2011 pretty much every resident of LA will steal a car.
A lot has changed in the US and not a lot of it changed for the good.

I like that show. Sometimes there are people standing nearby that tell the thieves it's a bait car, but they try to steal it anyway. They can't stop themselves.

I think the discrepancy between the demographic of the general population and the enrollment in the public school can be attributed to two factors--aging white homeowners who have lived there for many years and whose kids are grown and gone, and the fact that white people in L.A. don't send their kids to public schools if they can at all afford it.
The dead kid's high school, for comparison, is 7% African American, 1% American Indian, 14% Asian, 25% Latino, 53 % White (not Latino), 5% English Learners, 7% Special Education, 43% Gifted and Talented, 22% Economically Disadvantaged. They've also won the National Academic Decathlon several times in the last decade or so and are considered one of the jewels of the LAUSD.

Sadly, as soon as I read "Los Angeles" that became my assumption. Yeah, there are no Mexicans or blacks in Pennsylvania...Or twisted pedophile perverts working at your schools, preying on students...
The only sad thing here is your comment.
