I thought the same thing too. How high and mighty he is. The other thing- WHY did they do the background check AFTER they announced/notified the names? Seems backward to me. Are there any non-incompetent people in the Administration?
Sounds to me like a complete misuse of the criminal records system. By what authority where they searching these records? It had nothing to do with being arrested, applying for a security clearance or even a job which requires a release by the way.
I think we have someone in violation of disclosure laws here.
