Is There Any Other Republican Candidate Who Can Cut Government Spending, Deeper than Ron Paul?

Posted on 01/02/2012 7:22:11 AM PST by pinochet

Ron Paul has said that he will cut a trillion dollars in federal spending, the largest spending cuts proposed by any candidate so far. For years, Americans have elected Republicans who have promised to reduce the size of the federal budget, but have failed to keep their promises, once they get into office. How many remember Papa Bush's promise of "No new taxes?". How many times have Republican Presidential candidates lied, about promising to abolish the Department of Education.

Ron Paul's critics are not doubting that he will cut the federal budget. They are simply complaining that his spending cuts will go too far.

If America does not elect someone who will make huge cuts to the budget, America will suffer a larger federal deficit, and an even larger debt burden. America will print money to meet the budget shortfall, and we are going to have inflation similar to Weimer Germany or Zimbabwe.

America is broke. A repeal of Obamacare is not enough. The next President must provide a balanced budget in his first term, and give America a balanced budget ammendment. Is there any other Republican who can take a trillion dollars out of the budget?

If a kook is the only person who can do it, then, I guess, we need a kook to do the job which a Republican President is supposed to do. When the late Sen. Barry Goldwater called for the repeal of New Deal programs during his presidential campaign of 1964, they called him a kook, as well.

Personally, I have never heard of a spending cut I did not like. I prefer to cut back government, until there is nothing more left to cut. As far as I am concerned, government can never get too small. I am never going to complain that the federal budget is too lean, and needs to be increased.

Ron Paul is The Pork King of the GOP and a huge fan
Of Big govt goodies !
He is a 32 year. DC insider and fought and voted against the GOP ban
On earmarks / pork .
In fact he was one of four gopers who vote the ban !
He gobbled up all the pork goodies during the Tarp and Stimulus
Pork fests.
In 2009 Ron demanded over 134,000,000 in pork alone !
He is a radicak who is a 9-11 truther and a hater of Israel and his support is
Primarily from Dems trying to embarrass the GOP.

I don't need someone who will help create a world wide Islamic caliphate with the former USA as one of the satellites of that caliphate. And I don't need a person who will falsely blame the neo cons: read Jews; for helping to create that caliphate, also.

Ron Paul should and will not be elected. There are not enough Nazi Stormfronters, 9/11 truthers, Islamic terrorist, hidden iman holocaust deniers. and other enemies of western civilization to accomplish that.

No Republican candidate will cut government spending, including RuPaul. Best we will get is a halt in the rate of growth. That’s why a growing economy is important.

Well I guess if Paul is President then he won't be able to sneak his billions and billions of dollars in earmarks into every piece of legislation that is a cinch to pass while he votes against it.

Ron Paul is a lying, sneaky, crazy little bastard who has no business running in a Republican primary.

Let’s hope that kind of fiscal conservatism rubs off on all the candidates. It seems a good many are willing to downsize or eliminate at least some of the bureaucracies. The other side of the coin is waking up to the fact we’ve allowed foreign lands to bleed our military resources. We need a lean, mean military that can reach out and touch (read “dispatch”) those who seek our demise. Best not use them to build freedom in lands where the people prefer slavery.

To answer your question, Ron Paul currently represents the most draconian downsizing of federal spending. I suspect it will remain that way, and we will see establishment politicians on both sides in a tizzy over it.

Can you explain, precisely, how the President can cut spending?

(1) Veto any bill that raises the debt ceiling.

(2) When we hit the debt ceiling, defund all parts of government except defense, social security, and paying the debt.

What makes anybody think the pork barrel king would ever do anything to cut spending? He has been in Washington for well over a quarter century and never done a thing to cut spending.
In all the time he has been in Washington the only two things he has ever done is blame America for every problem in the world and acquire as many earmarks as possible. More than any candidate running. Probably more than all the other candidates running combined.

Before you ride the lightening let me try and save you.

What Paul would or could do on the economy is irrelevant because it is totally negated by his insanity and desire to get us all killed.

Right idea wrong horse, find anther one and jump off this one quick.

Presidents don’t pass budgets. Congress does. Ron Paul as President will do no more than he did in congress: Load the budget with his earmarks... then sit back until enough votes were already cast to pass the bill, then vote no to be able to say he “held the line” against spending. RoPaul is one gigantic LIE.
