What a creative and stirring tribute to our brave men and women who have served and are serving. It will bring a tear to your eye.
WVU Marching Band Armed Services Salute
That was mighty nice—thanks for posting.....
The salute to the Navy was quite imaginative.
Do you know if this is a new routine for the band?...they should do it forever..and maybe, one time they'll be a blimp overhead for some great shots..
The sub at the end was pretty cool.
THAT sir, was perfectly buttered and salted with tears.
The M&M was supurb
Lots of friends who went to WVU — will be posting this to my FB page today. Outstanding!
Oh my goodness... thank you for posting, randita! It was just awesome. Very patriotic and beautiful all at the same time. (I will say the Coast Guard formation confused me a bit... turned upside down?)
It was just brought to my attention, so don’t know if it was new or not. It may be one they do every year on the weekend near Veteran’s Day. This year, it was presented on 11/6.
I loved the reaction of the crowd - the cheers as each branch of the service was introduced. Sometimes they aren’t so much into the band show, but this time they were.
Upside down from the viewpoint of the camera location, but right side up from the viewpoint of the other side of the stadium.
Thanks, Randita! Gee... you don’t think the marching band practiced at all, do you?! LOL! It was flawless. I have personally never seen a marching band that can show movement like when the submarine submerged or the plane flew. Very creative and patriotic at the same time. Kudos to WV.
Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps, contrabass, ‘83-’86.
That was well executed. I know the difficulty of coordinating that many people on a field.
This weekend when so many unimportant rivalry games were played, I think it’s important to know what is truly important,
WVU 22 - Pitt 21.
:D
Each day Mark Levin ends his radio show with a musical tribute to all the forces, just like this. I suspect that is where the idea came from for WV.
You marched w/ the Crusaders??? Awesome! Had a couple of friends tour with Southwind, but, unfortunately, SW folded. First year in band (flag corps) my instructor was from the Madison Scouts. He later went to be an instructor at Bama.
Our uniforms went from the traditional to ‘Bridgemen’ my Jr year in HS. When I became drum major, I used to have a time with that ‘10 gallon hat’. Was 5’0”....and ALL HAT. LOL! Thank goodness I had a high enough podium. ;-)
I miss the ‘good ol’ days’ for marching band. 6 years of my life (4 years HS/ 2 years university). Loved it, loved, it, loved it!
And you are right. Some have no idea what it’s like to pull a show like that together.
(I will say the Coast Guard formation confused me a bit... turned upside down?)

They’re playing to ‘both sides of the field’ and not just ‘pressbox side’...which is what most shows play to. I’m glad they did it that was because it gives the entire crowd a good show...not just one side.
I agree, Rushy! This was so beautiful, creative and patriotic... they had to share it with the visitors!
My Mountaineers did it up right!
Might be ping-worthy for the NASCAR crew.

Hey, MO3 -
Check this out! It’s not patriotic, per se.....but you’ll appreciate it! Awesome coordination. :-)
