STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- An off-duty Port Authority police officer shot and killed his neighbors Doberman in Westerleigh last night, firing a single bullet at the dog as it tangled with his own smaller pooch.
The confrontation unfolded at about 9 p.m. last night, at the intersection of Leonard and Muller avenues. The officer, whose identity has not been released as of early this morning, was walking his pug when the Mazzola family, who live at that corner, returned home from a trip to the Catskill Mountains, 23-year-old Joe Mazzola said.

To make matters worse, the dog's owner was nearly shot trying to get to his dog.

Yep, that officer would get some time in the street if I was his supervisor.
As Orwell stated, some pugs are more equal than other pugs. In this case, ownership by a ULEO elevates the pug to near-police status. H*ll, he even got to sit in the patrol car.

I have it on inside information that a pug actually is a member of the “Men in Black” team.

That would end this sort of squabble. I say if New Yorkers gotta kill something they be forced to use ball bats or something ~ and limit it to the neighborhood.
That’s what happens when you give idiots a job where they carry and and can use a firearm. If they don’t “use it enough” they will find a way to use it... It’s the old “all problems look like nails if you have a hammer” aphorism...
The article doesn't say where the dog was when it was shot. It's unclear.
I’m happy to hear it was a pug this unleashed dog got frisky with and not my daughter that usually plays on the front lawn officers like that should be rewarded
