(11-02) 23:05 PDT OAKLAND -- A car struck two Occupy Oakland protesters tonight as they marched with a crowd along Broadway, and an angry mob surrounded the car as emergency workers tended to the injured.

The driver, who was not identified, sat in his silver Mercedes-Benz sedan after the 7:30 p.m. incident while hundreds of people screamed at him through his closed windows.

BART police officers who were guarding nearby transit stations responded, questioned the driver and several witnesses, then let the driver leave the scene at 11th Street and Broadway in his car.

The two people who were hit, a man and a woman, suffered leg and ankle injuries that were not life-threatening, said BART Police Deputy Chief Daniel Hartwig. They were taken to Highland Hospital.

These people think they're so enlightened, but they are just a mob of thugs.

It will be fun when they're the victims instead of the perpetrators.

And the time will come.

Huh . . . I wonder why thee SF Comical opted to refer to the actual make of the car? If it were a Hyundai or a Ford or a Chysler, would they have done the same? The notoriously leftwing rag couldn’t POSSIBLY be attempting to stoke the class envy hatred the Fleabaggers have for the successful in our society, could it?

Nahh...no way.

The comments at SFGate are getting more and more frightening.... Not just the wealth envy about this article, but on a story about a mansion for sale, and some other stories...

The sooner the 99% learns to get out of the way when we are coming through in our nice cars the less people will be hurt.

I would guess that they blocked the car and started banging on it, and the driver feared for their lives if they couldn’t get out of there.

A silver Mercedes is an obvious target for this kind of leftist protest.

The only way that this story could get any better is if it concluded with, “...and then the driver of the Mercedes backed up and hit them again.”

Lucky the driver did not have a gun if they started bashing on the car.

I drive a very large truck, and would be curious to see if the “Occupy” rioters are interested in intentionally blocking it’s path while I am driving down the street.

Wasn't this the same incident where it was reported that the male was killed?

I saw the video of this, and your guess is just about correct. The mob surrounded the car. You could see the car moving slowly forward and the people kept moving in front of it as if to stop it.

The the car looks like it lurched forward (which is when those in front of it were hurt).

In this case I would think the driver certainly was fearful of their life and it was certainly reasonable to attempt to drive on since it was unclear what the mob’s intention was.

The weather is changing in the bay area (cold and wet) so I doubt if this riot will continue much longer.

It is certainly clear that the city, or state government, is not going to do anything to protect the citizens or end the riot.

Since the police allowed the driver to leave after talking to witnesses, I'd suspect that was the case. Had there not been some reason for his actions, you can be certain that he would at least have been taken in for questioning.

Twitter a**holes were twittering that he had been killed. Lies. And the idiots were surrounding the car beating on it, IIRC one got on the hood.

They’re damn lucky they weren’t injured severely. The Occupukes were preventing cars from driving on the public roads.
