Occupy Oakland Calls For City-Wide General Strike, Nov 2 (Heads up)
occupywallstreet ^ | 30-oct-2011 | occupywallstreet

Posted on 10/30/2011 8:46:38 PM PDT by OL Hickory

We as fellow occupiers of Oscar Grant Plaza propose that on Wednesday November 2, 2011, we liberate Oakland and shut down the 1%.

We propose a city wide general strike and we propose we invite all students to walk out of school. Instead of workers going to work and students going to school, the people will converge on downtown Oakland to shut down the city.

All banks and corporations should close down for the day or we will march on them.

While we are calling for a general strike, we are also calling for much more. People who organize out of their neighborhoods, schools, community organizations, affinity groups, workplaces and families are encouraged to self organize in a way that allows them to participate in shutting down the city in whatever manner they are comfortable with and capable of.

The whole world is watching Oakland. Let’s show them what is possible.

“A Soldier, His Prayer”

Stay with me God. The night is dark. the night is cold; my little spark of Courage dies. The night is long; Be with me God and make me strong.

I love a game; I love a fight. I hate the dark; I love the light. I love my child; I love my wife. I am no coward. I love life.

Life with its changes of mood and shade I want to live. I am not afraid But me and mine are hard to part. Oh! Unknown God, lift up my heart.

You stilled the waters at Dunkirk And saved your servants. All your work Is wonderful, Dear God. You strode Before us down that dreadful road.

We were alone and hope had fled. We love our country and our dead And we could not shame them; so we stayed The course, and were not afraid.

Dear God; that nightmare road, then That sea; we got there-we were men My eyes were blind, my feet were torn, My soul sang like a bird at dawn.

I know that death is but a door. I know what we are fighting for. Peace for our kids our brothers freed, A kinder world, a loving creed.

I but the son my Mother bore. A simple man and nothing more. But-God of strength and gentleness Be pleased and nothing less.

Help me God, when death is near To mock the haggard face of fear. That when I fall, if fall I must, My soul may triumph in the dust.

Chaplain Oran Zaebst

102nd Cavalry Regiment

“Essex Troup”

This was read at a funeral I went to Saturday by a fellow Serviceman at the deceased's request. Three uniformed soldiers folding our flag. Taps. Not a dry eye in the Church.

I was so moved, I requested a copy from the Gentleman. It's available for download on scribd with handwritten notes below.

"A Soldier, His Prayer"

Any more LEOS who may be deciding to shoot a Veteran should read this, though it would probably mean more to our Country's Veterans past and present.

What happened to Scott Olsen may be a tipping point whether anyone on FR agrees or not.

If these morons keep this up, the unthinkable could happen.

California could be in play next year.

A tipping point for what? That he chose to be there, and it was the wrong place at the wrong time?

How do you actually “strike” when you are a “hobo”? Threaten to p*ss on the sidewalk instead of into the gutters for a day?

Occupy Oakland on strike?

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't you first need a job in order to strike?

I think they will find that they themselves are no more than 1% of the Oakland population.

Scott Olsen belongs to the same organization that produced Cindy Sheehan.

It’s unfortunate he was injured but there were members of the press in just as much danger as him, there taking video and photographs. I saw the video, it was an accident. The canister was on a ballistic trajectory and couldn’t possibly have been intended for him. The police were dispersing the crowd with tear gas after bottles and rocks were thrown at them (and one of them admitted this to MSNBC).

I want to see his DD 214, or at least get confirmation he was really in the service and didn’t have a general or dishonorable discharge. If he’s a fraud, it wouldn’t be the first time his organization has tried to fool us.

The “Veterans For Peace” outfit can’t be trusted.

The hobos in Oakland and SF defecate already on the sidewalks.

They need to up their game by, say, defecating on cars or pissing on pedestrians.

They could REALLY up their game by taking showers and getting jobs.

There aren’t enough Greeks in that town to carry out a really fun strike.

He is from near me. He had a BCD and there have been screen shots of his ownership of a web site called “IHATETHEMARINES.com”.

A couple of days ago his condition was upgraded from critical.

Thanks to both of you for the info.

Sure enough, my suspicions are confirmed — haven’t heard a peep from the MSM, of course.

Logically speaking one needs a job in order to strike and also, I think you need to belong to a union I have never heard of a non-union striker.
However in Oakland and all over we are dealing with a bunch of buffoons, I live in CA I am stick of working my butt off, paying my taxes, watching my budget while these people have no clue about anything.
Why are they not protesting in Washington where the real problem is, Freddie and Fannie executives just got a nice big fat bonus after they destroyed the housing industry because everyone needs to own a home even if they can’t afford no one is yelling at them as being fat cats.
Why do they always blame Republicans for being rich I live in CA Pelosi and Feinstein aren’t hurting when it comes to being RICH! How about the business Solyndra which I pass everyday taking taxpayers money to end up closing I don’t see anyone protesting there. Small businesses who are suffering by these morans occupying places, some people on unemployment who are using it as a vacation some people yes can’t find jobs but some people are taking full advantage of unemployment. I can go on but I might throw-up
I never saw the tea party act like this group of people around the country,

Pelosi and Feinstein get a pass, that’s why many ‘rich’ are libs. One you get a pass, two its the government’s job to take care of the poor.
