BALTIMORE (WJZ) Rapid Redux, a five-year-old thoroughbred gelding, made history Thursday with a 19th consecutive win in Laurel Park. He ties with two other horses with this victory.
With his jockey J.D. Acosta, Rapid Redux led throughout the seven-furlong race and covered the distance in one minute and 24.07 seconds.
The horse is owned by Robert L. Cole, Jr. of Baltimore County, who bought Rapid Redux at Penn National for $6,250 in Oct. 2010. Since then, the thoroughbred has won 20 out of 21 races and earned $237,009
” thoroughbred gelding, “
I’m guessing that the owner is regretting that decision, by now....
WOW! Striding to be the best.
I bet he is researching who the sire and dame were.
He has Bold Ruler, Northern Dancer and Secretariat in his background.
This horse is a claiming horse. He was gelded young and the current owner claimed him sometime last year and has been running him in starter allowances, which is restricted to horses who have run for a claiming tag in the past 2 years.
This is a nice horse but not a great one. The owner has been very smart finding perfectly conditioned races that are very winnable spots for the horse at various small circuit tracks in the mid-atlantic region.
The current owner is Robert Cole Jr. who is regarded as a very smart horseman who buys cheap claiming horses he sees as undervalued. He famously claimed a horse named “Shake You Down” for $65,000 in January 2003 that would later go on to finish 3rd in the Breeders Cup Sprint Championship that same November.
He ties with two other horses with this victory.
Very poor reporting! A real reporter would have NAMED the other two horses and given a few details about THEIR records! No details; no means of comparison.
Have you heard of Seeyouatpeelers? She’s a Standardbred filly/mare that went 20 for 20 recently. She’s trained by Jimmy Takter.
My congrats to the owner: Obviously he is a great judge of horseflesh. He might even come up with a great one, like....
“Robert L. Cole, Jr...., who bought Rapid Redux at Penn National for $6,250 in Oct. 2010. Since then, the thoroughbred has won 20 out of 21 races...”
To me, the really impressive feat is keeping an inexpensive horse like this running. 21 races in just over a year. Nice job Wells.
Congrats RC.
Absolutely.
I think of all the thoroughbreds which don’t even run 21 times in their careers and this guy has accomplished this in one year, winning 20 of them.
This really is a great story regardless of the level of his competition.
Thanks for the information. Impressive.
