Federal agents with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service shut down the Gibson Guitar factory in Downtown Memphis today to serve search warrants in an ongoing investigation, officials said.

Nicholas Chavez, special agent in charge for U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Region 2 in Albuquerque, N.M., said agents also served a search warrant on Gibson Guitar in Nashville.

In November 2009, agents for the service searched the guitar maker's manufacturing plant in Nashville, reportedly during an investigation of use of woods banned from commercial use for environmental reasons.

Yes, but was this wood guilty of any criminal activity? Why should we enforce the law if the wood did nothing wrong?

I guess all the federal agents who no longer have to worry about finding Illegal immigrants need to find something to do. Might as well harrass businesses that actually make things here about their raw materials.

You mean electric guitars are not made out of electricals?

Getting to the point, I think you earlier wanted to remark that the same federal government that shows such a lack of concern over ILLEGAL ALIENS is positively livid over ILLEGAL WOOD.

Hmm ~ whatever that means ~ not surprising at all about what's on Eric Holder's mind ~ criminals? wood? criminals? wood? ~ Fur shur that's a difficult choice for him.

They’ve already done that. Most of their Epiphone line is already made overseas.

When Les Pauls are outlawed, only outlaws will play Les Pauls.

Guess I’m safe, being as I play a Strat. :)

IIRC, Gibson is being investigated for using ebony and rosewood illegally harvested from Madagascar.

"And, in other news, Gibson announced they are moving production overseas meaning the loss of hundreds of jobs."

In this case it wouldn't do them a bit of good to move overseas. Gibson is suspected of illegally obtaining rosewood from Madagascar. Even if they moved overseas that illegally gotten wood in the guitars would never be allowed to be sold in the USA, their largest market for Gibson guitars.

Yes, Rosewood from Madagascar. They are accused of buying the wood from a banned source. They also are being checked out by the IRS for not paying taxes. It is Ironic that this is happening to them. Gibson plays up that it is a green company with the Smartwood line of Guitars. However Henry Juszkiewicz CEO of the company has pissed off a lot of the help with some crazy ideas and some real crap new models they are marketing. So we shall see what happens.

The Commercial Appeal article really isn’t very good. Here’s a much better informed story, even though it’s a couple of years old:

I guess I should pull my ads for custom guitars made from Green Sea Turtles, huh? LMAO!

Screw the tree-humping kommie perverts. The can have my turtle guitars when they pry my cold, dead fingers from around them.

Epiphone

Yeppers. I picked up an Epi Explorer body and slapped a Charvel Jackson neck on it. Loved that neck.

Makes me want to buy a Gibson.

It’s sickening what our tax dollars are paying for.
