Bradley's Tenure as Head Coach of U.S. Men's National Team Ends
CHICAGO (July 28, 2011) U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati announced today that Bob Bradley has been relieved of his duties as the head coach of the U.S. Mens National Team.
We want to thank Bob Bradley for his service and dedication to U.S. Soccer during the past five years, said Gulati. During his time as the head coach of our Mens National Team he led the team to a number of accomplishments, but we felt now was the right time for us to make a change. It is always hard to make these decisions, especially when it involves someone we respect as much as Bob. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.
This announcement comes after a meeting at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., between Gulati, Bradley and U.S. Soccer CEO Dan Flynn.
Bradley was named the head coach of the U.S. MNT in January of 2007 and during his five-year tenure compiled a 43-25-12 record. He led the team to a number of accomplishments, including winning the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, finishing second in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, winning their World Cup qualifying group and advancing to the Round of 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
U.S. Soccer will have a further announcement on Friday.
Mixed feelings about Bradley, but I think it is time to try someone new.
USSF must be ready to pony up for Klinsmann.
After the Mexican debacle I’m not shocked.
Klinsmann.
I’m not sure which was more embarrassing, the way Bradley screwed up the World Cup, or the way Bradley screwed up the Gold Cup.
I have the same feelings as previous posters. Yeah, there were some great moments (Confed Cup, Algeria game), but I think it was time to move on. We didn’t seem to have a gameplan really. Basically it was long pass after long pass hoping to get a good bounce. That was extremely annoying.
That, was quite painful!
They outrun us every night down on the Border. :)
I watched some of that game. How do you stop something like that bicycle kick?? Wow!
The substitution of the dreadful Jonathan Bornstein in the Gold Cup and moving Lichaj at the same time was just ugly. The team’s play throughout the tournament was subpar.
Meanwhile, in the World Cup Bradley fielded teams that were continually either unready to play or populated by people who had no business being on the park such as Ricardo Clark and Robbie Findley.
Selections like those two, and the inclusion of Bornstein on the Gold Cup roster in the first place, go straight to competence in my mind.
I’d have dismissed Bradley after the World Cup, frankly, on the basis of his personnel decisions alone. The only problem is that Sunil Gulati gets to replace him.
Yeah, that was an awesome goal, but being up 2-0 to lose 2-4 is bad....very bad.
As for Bradley, a little surprised at the timing, but not sorry to see him go; although I don't think coaching is the only issue with the US. No way.
