The majority of people feel upset and lonely when they are deprived of access to the internet, according to consumer research.
A new study has revealed that 53 per cent feel upset when denied access and 40 per cent feel lonely if they are unable to go online.
The research found that people experience these feelings even if denied online access for a short time.
The scientists reported the volunteers told of physiological and physical symptoms comparable to addicts trying to quit smoking or drugs. These included feeling fidgety, anxious and isolated, and even reaching out for their mobile phone, which was no longer there. Some of those taking part in the experiment - called Unplugged - said they felt like they were undergoing 'cold turkey' to break a hard drug habit, while others said it felt like going on a diet.

Ya ought to see them when they can’t get FR!
Captain Obvious material.
He!!, a majority of people absolutely cannot stop texting even when in rush hour traffic without going psychotic!
Naw....when I’m deprived of my car...That’s when I have problems
The majority of teenage girls feel upset and lonely when they are deprived of access to the telephone, according to consumer research.
I did the above research 30 years ago, and came to similar conclusions to the study. And I did it without spending taxpayer funds... :0)
No one is "deprived." If welfare (unemployed by choice, once a monthers) can get a free computer and Internet access without lifting a finger, there's no reason why people shouldn't have two or three accesses.
"Deprived" my butt. No more free handouts. Working people can't afford to pay for them anymore.
Well, internet access IS a ‘basic human right’, now, you know...
I do business on the internet quite often and when it goes down for whatever reason I get very upset.Like ten minutes till the closing of an auction and no way to bid.
It will be if "science" decides not having the Internet causes medical problems. It'll be covered by Obomacare as a basic need.
I'm so tired of hearing people whine every time something isn't provided for them (by some one else).
Man up, and stop being such a bunch of weenies.
That’s weird.
I usually feel pretty good when deprived of the Internet.
Of course that usually happens when I go on vacation and leave my computer behind. My only remaining “connections” are my Kindle and my cell phone, neither of which I really use for browsing. (My wife, however, is a wiz at browsing using both.)
The best place of all is the Ojo Caliente resort (http://ojocalientesprings.com/): no wi-fi, no TV or cable, no telephone, no cell reception.
Just me and my wife steaming in the Iron Spring.
I just can’t feel any better than that!
Yeah. It’s called Internet Addiction Syndrome.
They have a cure for it. A course you can take. It is... online.
LOL. We are all addicted to technology. I get uneasy when I don’t have my cell phone, yet until the past decade, I didn’t have one.
I feel deprived and lonely when I can’t access FR. I’m so addicted.
In all seriousness, in June of this year the United Nations released a report in which they declared internet access to be a â ‘human right’.
I was poking fun at that ‘decision’.
