As a kid I remember seeing the first space shuttle on the ground in California, prior to any launches. My dad’s friend worked at Rockwell and got us all some passes to an event where the shuttle was parked and cordoned off by nothing more than a few ropes, like something you’d see in a movie theater line at the snack bar. I remember being a bit disappointed that I couldn’t climb up inside the thing and ‘play’ and see what the interior looked like.

Latest Shuttle News

NASA is convening an Engineering Review Board meeting at 4:30 p.m. EDT to discuss the status of space shuttle Atlantis and the launch pad following a lightning strike earlier today. Lightning was detected within a third of a mile of the pad.

LOL, yes it is a mash-up, but “theoretically” if the picture were taken from around 4 miles away, the sizing would be about right...
