Alleged thieves chop down tree to get to bike (VIDEO)

A group of men in Brooklyn apparently decided the fastest way to steal a bike chained to a tree was to cut down the tree.

A video on YouTube shows the men early yesterday morning looking at the bike before finally chopping down the tree. One then rides the bike a bit, only to leave it right where the group found it.

I guess it was the thrill of the hunt. I expect these guys to get the death penalty in NYC for ruthlessly killing that tree. Mayor Bloomy will show more outrage than for the Ground Zero mosque.

The hippies will be in mourning for the tree.

Come on though, that tree looked like it was asking for it. That will teach it not to harbor bicycles all up on that street like it owns the place, providing shade in the summer heat and everything like it's trying too hard to be useful. How could you not attack it with an axe?

A bit misleading. I watched the video twice and saw one man chopping down the tree and a group of men trying to stop him, actually getting physical. But they do have to be cautious when the man’s wielding an ax. The one who rode it a few feet may have been checking if it was still OK, or he was talked out of it by his friends.

I liked how the tree nearly fell on the dude swinging the axe. That would've been justice.

Funny thing is that the cops could probably show up there tonight and it'll be those same dudes just hanging out in the same place.
